Yes I agree with not keeping hopeless staff, but to say a solution for all businesses doing badly is to fire 20% of their workforce si stupid. A cure-all attitude. How about seeing why the company is having the problem first - could be nothing to do with staff, could be any number of factors. |

If you are forever getting rid of the bottom 20% you are forever having to train 20%. It is like the trickle down effect of Roger Douglas's reforms. The only trouble is that there was no trickle down. |

Its almost impossible to fire staff these days unless you make it so uncomfortable they leave on their own volition you couldnt lay the bottom 20% off and rehire. The whole concept is morally wrong because there is always going to be a lower 20% |
