1177619 2011-02-13 04:10:00 You want to reconnect the router after a few hours so that it reconnects and reauthenticates, and any new account settings (Such as a bigger / faster plan) can be applied.

10GB isn't much, I can do that in half a day on my own. LOTRO is 12GB on its own. Either way, if you go to telecom.co.nz you'll see they've upgraded their plans recently: www.telecom.co.nz

PeteS, that's why its called outsourcing bud ;)

Meanwhile, I'm with HD, $99 for flat-rate (Though I hear it may be changing to 500GB soon). Basically it means for the average home user you've got nothing to worry about, but for the pirates it could end up costing them if they're extremely crazy. I do around 100 -> 200GB a month, so it works brilliantly!

1177620 2011-02-13 04:49:00 Hey Chill...I checked out your blog 'looking for HD' as I hadn't heard of them. Pretty interesting commentary on the state of broadband in NZ. Now I've got some food for thought!! Having to stay on topic of course...I therefore recommend others go to your blog site. PeteS (12500)
1177621 2011-02-13 05:24:00 Thanks mate.

In the mean time, I can't recommend the likes of HD enough! Their network setup is top-notch!

Something like their "Home and Office" one would be great for Billy, if you can bear switching and ditching Telecom ;) (Most people would jump at that idea)

They initially started off as just a data center, but they've recently brought out some pretty damn good offerings for ADSL!

1177624 2011-02-13 09:32:00 Truthfully, 10GB has been more than enough for my usage, Mrs T's occasional forays and son & daughter's demands. We rarely exceeded 6GB per month despite said son having a thing about YouTube.

Anyway, I did an online upgrade to 20GB for an extra $10 per month (may keep it and charge the son!!!).

He got a real bollocking I can tell you, the like of which he has never suffered before in his life, because he had been told that I needed more BW than usual because I was setting up the laptop for his sister and his cooperation was politely requested. If Telecom doesn't actuate the upgrade by sometime tomorrow I'll be hard pressed to get the laptop completed by Wednesday (D Day). It took hours just to update MS Essentials this afternoon and I still have to work as well.

I always shutdown for the night, computer and internet connection, so I'll see if it is faster in the am. I'd forgotten how slow dial-up was!

Cheers

While I think of it, very occasionally when I shut down at night (has only happened three times in a year or so) I get a message that somebody else is still logged on to my computer, yet there is nobody logged on except me. Security is good, 'Shields Up' says we can't be seen (Nat Router + XP firewall etc) and all incoming mail is screened via mailwasher and only the kosher stuff gets through.

Any ideas?

1177625 2011-02-13 17:46:00 Usually that happens if you lock your screen then shut down the PC

If you get stuck, you can always make a quick trip over to my place and I can give you a hand with it + bandwidth for setting it up ;)

..just saying, the offers there :)
