1177489 2011-02-13 05:34:00 i havent ever changed them since i built the computer, and i havent overclocked, how would i check them and what should they be for the setup i have (in post 1)? smithinator (15240)
1177490 2011-02-13 06:03:00 I don't know what they'd be. You need to find the model number of your RAM and look them up.

Sometimes when set to auto they are chosen incorrectly, and should be manually set to the correct settings. This doesn't happen often though.

Try what Speedy said first though, one stick at a time...

1177491 2011-02-13 06:14:00 If it is running on incorrect voltages could it damage the ram or any other component? or will it just stop them from working correctly? smithinator (15240)
1177492 2011-02-13 06:21:00 What ram did you install?? DDR3 2200/1600/1333/1066/800 ? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1177493 2011-02-13 06:33:00 it is the corsair dominator 2x2gb DDR3 1600mhz and on the side of the ram it says 9-9-9-24 1.65v (ver 3.1) smithinator (15240)
1177494 2011-02-13 06:57:00 Go to the RAM info in BIOS (should be something like that there on a recent board) and see if the settings match up. If they don't, then you will need to change them...

The numbers 9-9-9-24 should correspond to, from left to right: CL-tRCD-tRP-tRAS (CAS Latency, RAS-to-CAS Delay, RAS Precharge, Cycle Time)

1177495 2011-02-14 03:54:00 ok in M.I.T current status it says:

DIMMS: (note dimms 1 and 3 have the same specs listed)
dimm slot: 2048mb
enabled slot: 2048mb
total mem size: 4096mb

channel A and B: tcl=9 trcd=9 trp=9 tras=24 trrd=5 twtp=21 trfc=74 and tcmd=1

in advanced mem settings it says:

memory frequency: 1333
performance enhance: turbo
Dram timing selectable: (spd) auto
profile ddr voltage: 1.5v
profile qpi voltage: 1.1v
channel interleaving: 6 Auto
rank interleaving; 4 auto

im sorry but i dont understand what most of the above means so i wrote everything i could find that looked like it could be relevant, and i have not changed any settings other than fan fail warnings and boot device orders since i got all of the components.

1177496 2011-02-14 04:22:00 Well your timings match up but the frequency and voltage seem wrong...

The RAM appears to be running at 1333mhz instead of the 1600mhz it's rated at. I don't know about Intel systems but on current AMD (Phenom II) anything above 1333mhz is overclock so maybe it's running at that because that's the highest it will go at stock speeds.

Same with voltage, at lower speeds you need less voltage, at higher speeds you need more voltage.

You could try changing the speed to 1600Mhz and voltage to 1.65v and see if it helps... might pay if you get the opinion of someone with an Intel system first though (doubt you would hurt anything though)

1177497 2011-02-14 04:29:00 Well, I'm running an Intel system. but I just leave everything on auto / the default settings. As the saying goes, if it ain t broke, dont fix it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1177498 2011-02-14 04:30:00 Well for you I'm sure that would be fine since you aren't getting BSOD everywhere... clearly for smithinator there is a problem, however. Agent_24 (57)
