| 1177436 | 2011-02-12 07:07:00 | Hello, first I want to say thank you again. You helped me with a BSOD problem awhile back and since then, have not had that problem :) However, I am having a new one that I do not understand. I have a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop. When we are done using our computer we always shut it down. Well sometimes after we shut it down, it just will not turn back on. The computer, monitor, and printer are plugged into a power stirp, so we turn of the power stirp and try to press the button to see if the computer turns on but it will not. The monitor comes back on and the printer, but not the computer. Now it does not happen all the time, but it is getting more frequent. I am using it right now, so it is working and the power light is blue. But sometimes it is orange. Do you have any idea why it could be doing this? Some days it will not turn on all day, and then later on at night it will turn on. We thought maybe we put it in a power saving mode and did not realize it, but how would that make the computer not even turn on. I will sit there and press the button a lot and it does nothing??? Any thoughts? |

Are you referring to the Monitor or the Computer power light in that statement ? When the Computer doesn't turn on, is it completely dead, or do you hear the fans start, but nothing on the monitor ? Some days it will not turn on all day, and then later on at night it will turn on This may sound silly, but its not - how hot/cold is the room when it does this. I have seen Computers do similar, and it can be a solder joint in the Power Supply being affected by hot/cold. Or on the motherboard as well. One customers Computer took ages to track the problem, wouldn't start in the morning when cooler, but as soon as the day got warmer it was fine. |

Sometimes when we turn it on the fans seem pretty loud, but then they go to normal and everything works. BUT if we leave the computer running (not while using it) it will turn off completley but the fans will be really loud. I have no idea what is going on with this thing. It is tempermental lol. Last night we shut it down right before bed. This morning I went to try and turn it on and hit the power button on the computer and it did nothing, no noise, or anything. Like it was dead. I kept trying all day, and then tonight it decided it would turn on after I hit the button??? |

It can't be off if the fans are still running. You sure it's not just gone into hibernation? Try the PC plugged into - either another power board or direct into the power socket in the wall. Some of those cheap multi power boards are dodgy I've found. |

| 1177443 | 2011-02-12 20:28:00 | Okay, I messed up when typing it last night (it was really late here) The monitor is orange not the computer . I just turned on my computer, at first it would not turn on . I press the button and nothing would happen, no sound, no fans, it was off . The monitor was on but the light on it was orange . Finally, after turning the power strip on and off, I pressed the button and the blue light turned on and the computer came on . Do you think it is going into some kind of power saving mode? But it is odd that If I turn the button on it does nothing??? I am not computer savvy, so bear with me on me understanding what you are saying . I will make it so the pc is plugged into the actual wall outlet . Also, if it was the power strip, wouldnt the montior and printer not turn on?? I dont know, I just wish it would stop doing this . Also, I was looking at my settings . We have the power button set to shut down . It gave me options to change it to sleep, hibernate or shut down . Should we keep it at shut down or change it? Should I always shut down the computer when we are not using it? I know when it is left running it will stop working and the fans will be loud . The computer on button becomes orange . I hope I am making sense?? |

| 1177445 | 2011-02-12 21:18:00 | When the monitor is Orange, its not getting any signal from the PC, usually meaning its not turned on. IF the PC wont turn on at all, then its obviously not getting the power to do so, BUT its a case of find out where. As mentioned, try another Multi box. If other items, Printers, desk lamp, Modem, router etc are plugged into the same box and they work, its could be a Power supply in the PC, the Switch, or even a motherboard fault. If the fans start, but nothing else, then once again it could be a PSU not giving enough power to boot, or a motherboard failing. Its really a process of elimination to find out whats causing it. Dont allow hibernation or sleep, they can be a real pain and cause all sorts of problems. Looking back at #4 Sometimes when we turn it on the fans seem pretty loud, but then they go to normal and everything works. BUT if we leave the computer running (not while using it) it will turn off completley but the fans will be really loud. Thats normally fans full of dust / dirt. Its possible its over heating and shutting down, BUT it would only normally not turn back on for 5 minutes approx, or untill the CPU had cooled down enough. It usually wouldn't effect it being shutdown over night (or shouldn't) as its would be cold, and would take a couple of minutes to heat back up again. |
