| 1177225 | 2011-02-11 20:37:00 | Greetings, I've been trying to track down an issue with my wifes laptop. Everything works perfectly, until I enable access to the internet. At that point, the system becomes unresponsive. Here is what I have done: 1. Trinity Rescue CD. This ran to completion with no problems found at all. 2. Norton Internet Security updated and ran to completion. 3. Installed / ran Spybot S & D . Removed the 11 entries it found. 2 reported as trojans. 4. Ran Hijackthis and saved off the log. There was a button to "get advice" on some of the entires, but as soon as I enabled the internet, the computer stopped responding. Here is the log that Hijackthis provided: (note: I did check and fix the O2 - BHO entries that had {no name} {no file} Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.4 Scan saved at 11:57:39 AM, on 2/11/2011 Platform: Windows 7 (WinNT 6.00.3504) MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.7600.16722) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Internet Security\Engine\17.8.0.5\ccSvcHst.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Ink\TabTip32.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\TOSHIBA\ConfigFree\NDSTray.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNo tifier.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Spybot - Search & Destroy\TeaTimer.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\acrobat_sl.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Toshiba\Utilities\KeNotify.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Roxio\Roxio Burn\RoxioBurnLauncher.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Software Update\hpwuschd2.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Epson Software\Event Manager\EEventManager.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Java\Java Update\jusched.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\acrotray.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqSTE08.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqbam08.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqgpc01.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\TOSHIBA\ConfigFree\CFSwMgr.exe C:\Users\Paisley\Desktop\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = go.microsoft.com R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = go.microsoft.com R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = go.microsoft.com R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\Windows\SysWOW64\blank.htm R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName = R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! | 1177226 | 2011-02-11 20:54:00 | First thing I suggest, remove Norton - it causes more problems than it worth. use something else thats a lot better. Free = Microsoft Security (www.microsoft.com) OR a LOT better, Nod32 - there is a free 30 day trial. here (www.eset.com). Once uninstalled, try the Internet again. You may need to run the Norton Removal tool to clean out what the Norton uninstaller leaves behind ( which is a lot) - Select the version you have (us.norton.com). From My sig below, get super antispyware, install and run that in full mode as well. Install Ccleaner, run it - this removes all the junk files from your PC. What you may want to have a look at, click start, type in reli click on View reliability history - when it opens, have a look at the times the internet stops, see if there are any red circles with a white X click it, and it will tell you what has happened below in the results Payne. PS: welcome to PF1 :) |

| 1177229 | 2011-02-12 02:07:00 | you seem to have a number of system files missing, which are related to internet connections. run the system file checker and it will repair/replace any missing or corrupt files. 1. Click Start button, type “cmd” in the start button, right-click on the “cmd.exe” and select “Run as administrator” to run the command prompt in elevated or administrator mode. 2. Type the following command in the command prompt and hit enter: (make sure of the space between sfc and /scannow) sfc /scannow once the scan has finished, reboot your comp and try the internet |

It probably updates whatever, when it think it needs to be updated There maybe some entries in task scheduler, that dont have to be there (if you leave the computer on 24/7 |
