1177070 2011-02-11 07:16:00 I am trying to set my nana up with broadband and she has chosen slingshot .

The problem i am having is when i connect everything up it tells me its not connected .

When i look at the network connections it says local area connection 1 is not connected but local area connection 2 is .

I have tried to uninstall connection 1 so connection 2 will show and allow me to connect but that doesnt work as when i restart it, it is back again .

Can anybody help please?

1177071 2011-02-11 07:29:00 1. What version of windows is on both.

2. Are you using a modem / router? If youre using a router, does it have ports on it? Even if theyre saying theyre not connected, can either get on the internet?

3. How is it connected so far? From the computers to the router? Have you put the slingshot username / password in the router? If you cant connect to the internet?

How many ethernet ports do you have? Is the light on the cable blinking?

Also, which lights on your router are blinking?

1 . XP

2 . Yes it is the modem/router that comes with XP - but i cant get either on the internet as when i try set up a connection i can only see connection 1 - the one that says its not connected .

3 . The computer is connected to the modem/router from the ethernet port - and when i go into the modem settings e . g 19 2 . 168 . 1 . 1 it has the slingshot username/password .

One ethernet port and yes the lights where the cable is connected is flashing .

All the lights apart from the internet one are flashing, does this mean its a slightshot/phone connection issue?

1177074 2011-02-11 08:23:00 The DSL light on the modem should be steady not flashing.
Try connecting the phone lead from the modem direct into the phone jack if you are using a filter and perhaps try another phone jack as well.

1177075 2011-02-11 08:30:00 Is SP3 on both?? It depends on what the model of this modem / router is on what LED's should be on / flashing. Have you connected a filter to the phone jack?? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1177076 2011-02-11 09:15:00 All the lights ion the modem are steady - but there is no light on the last one - which has the internet symbol .

I do have a filter on but have tried directly with no luck as well .

Speedy: I think it is SP3 but not sure what you mean by on both - there is only one computer involved .

1177077 2011-02-11 09:18:00 So whats the other connection thats in network connections? Ethernet and ? Is there a dial-up modem in the case too? That maybe why connection 1 says not connected. Open internet explorer then go to tools / internet options / connections. If it shows a dialup modem here, change it to never dial a connection Speedy Gonzales (78)
1177078 2011-02-11 09:26:00 Go to Start then click on Run.
Type in: ipconfig /all < pressf1.txt

Find pressf1.txt, copy the contents of the file and paste it here.

1177079 2011-02-11 09:28:00 I don't know why there is two - they are for the ethernet card - identical - one says local connection 1 and one say local connection 2 - connection 1 says there is no cable plugged in - but connection two says there is .

There is a dial up modem but this is in addition to the two local connections .

There is only one ethernet card of that i am sure .

Its like windows thinks there are two ethernet cards - one that has a cable plugged in and one that doesnt - but it only ever seems to recongse local connection 1 .

Its really strange .

I tried to unstall them both and restart windows in the hope that it would locate the device on boot up - but when i do that it tells me there are two local connections again and names them 3 and 4 .
