1136368	2010-09-13 06:10:00	This car rally is really addictive to watch! You can track the competitors using www.pekingparis.com Skytag website via a link on the rally homepage. They are driving across the Gobi desert in Mongolia right now, and it is neat to read the travel/adventure blogs of the competitors (links to their personal blogs found on official website). New Zealand's entry (www.peking2paris4parkinsons.com) has had a mechanical set back and they have trucked their 1929 Chrysler Roadster car to the next stop in Ulaan Baatar. An Australian team fixed their big end shim (?) with a strip cut off a can of Sprite according to the official rally reports. The oldest car in the rally is a 1907 Itala and it is keeping up with the pack.	Jen (38)
1136369	2010-10-04 06:11:00	Yeah, so OK I am still following the rally and reading some of the competitors great blogs - fascinating stuff. :p The NZ competitor's website that Beetle originally posted have had a set back. Their lovely car (1929 - Chrysler 75 Roadster), was deemed unrepairable in Ulaan Baatar (capital of Mongolia) and has been shipped back to NZ. The driver (Bruce) has become the navigator for another NZ car, a 1934 Rolls Royce. The Rolls driver lost his navigator at day 1 so was trying to navigate and drive at the same time. The other half of the original team, Bruce's son, flew to a rally point several days ahead and has purchased a 2nd hand car so he can still follow the rally route. He has also been joined in the car by another team whose car (1929 - Chevrolet Roadster), caught fire and burned to the ground. Just to make matters more interesting, the cheap 2nd-hand car does not have all the correct paperwork so they are having to sweet talk themselves each border. So far they have gotten away with it ... The rally is crossing into Iran this morning for a three day sprint across to Turkey. I actually have very little/no interest in cars, but I love adventures/traveling so that is my excuse to follow the rally reports. Sad I know. :D	Jen (38)
1136370	2010-10-05 02:17:00	ive not heard of this race, only heard of the Paris to Dakkar one before.... :) beetle It is the fourth Peking-to-Paris race and duplicates the route of the eleven cars that participated in the first Peking to Paris race in 1907. If you can find any photos on the web you'll see what a marathon it was, in many cases there were no roads at all. Cheers Billy 8-{)	Billy T (70)

I know you lot were just waiting to hear this. :p The cars (what was remaining/left of them), did the last few kms of their over 14000 kms journey around the Arc de Triomphe, down the Champs Elysees to cross the finish line at the Place Vendome. It took them 37 days to complete the journey from Peking to Paris. I guess the next challenge will be getting the cars out of Paris/France with the fuel shortage due to the strikes. :eek:	Jen (38)
