1136868 2010-09-13 11:28:00 XT afaik needs the 850 3G freq.

If not ... if you are in many of the CBDs they may have some other freqs that they also use, so it may work there but may be not in the not larger cities.

Oh. It's 2G ....

1136869 2010-09-13 11:29:00 No. It's a GSM-only phone, and XT doesn't use GSM.

XT is an exclusively WCDMA network, running on 850MHz and 2100MHz.

Really? I knew 2100MHz was used for infill, but I always thought the main base frequency was 850MHz.

1136871 2010-09-13 12:22:00 Oops - my mistake, you're right - thanks for pointing that out . XT's main frequency is 850MHz. Erayd (23)
1136872 2010-09-13 22:11:00 I just picked up a Samsung SGH 1617 Blackjack II - the most brilliant phone I've ever had (since the bricks of 1984), for $200 on Trademe. The specs Here (www.samsung.com). QWERTY, upgraded to Windows 6.5, syncs with M$Outlook (yay), full Garmin GPS (not A-GPS), Windows browser, etc etc. the only thing it doesn't have is TV (I think you need a WAP browser for that) but that doesn't phase me, at all.

If you want to check it out with the dealer, PM me and I'll give you the contact.

I have a Samsung Eternity I bought off Trademe about 6 months ago, Real easy to setup on carriers but the worst outgoing speech I have ever had most likely do to the mic being on the bottom edge rather than the front bottom. What is your O/G speech like and was it setup for you or did you set it up yourself. I just bought of TM a LG Incite WinMo 6.1. Looks like a real pig to setup but great O/G speech..

1136874 2010-09-14 06:02:00 No complaints re O/G speech, or received for that matter (mic is lower front to one side). Phone was fully set up when I bought it, and the dealer was able to show me how to use all features of the phone. A good top end phone for a fraction of the new price (about 18 months old, ex uSA, with AT & T origins). I recently shopped BlackBerry (similar features, but I don't have to pay their monthly fee). The Blackjack is not touch screen, but feature for feature the only phone that beats it seems to be the Motorola Milestone.

And it's 3G.

It's *significantly* inferior to most other current-gen smartphones in almost all respects - even the original iPhone leaves it in the dust.
