He got in only because the Act faithful put him high enough on the pecking order and enough people people voted Act to get him there. He got there because Rodney got there not because enough people voted for Act as they were below the 5% mark. |

(except for the outrage from his fellow get tough on crime crowd). When you consider what was required to gain that passport it obviously wasn't a spur of the moment crime so you can be as forgiving as you like but I am not going to be. |

Penalties involving a soggy bus ticket don't help. Perhaps being a lawyer allowed him to meet a lower than average standard of morality? |

The country was rightly in an uproar over their crimes - how come some dorks on this site seem to think it was a minor indiscretion (a prank) when Garrett did exactly the same thing? The fact that he didn't use it is irrelevant - the Mossad spooks didn't either. | John H (8) | ||

Garrick got into parliament the first place because a desperate Rodney Hide was promised votes by the Sensible Sentencing Trust if he brought their man into the ACT party. I gather the rest of ACT wasn't too pleased with the arrangement or the three strikes policy and hence the leaks to the media commenced once the ACT parties blood letting started. I wouldn't expect the SST to forgive him if they're being consistent. Garth McVicar gets one of his men into parliament who then gets evicted because of publicity over his criminal record. McVicar should be asking Garrick to resign from parliament although presumably McVicar knew about the offending all along and chose to keep it quiet. McVicar's current statement on this is ""The Trust recognizes that people make mistakes in their lives and most put those mistakes behind them and become law abiding citizens. David Garretts present commitment to law and order and a safer society should not go unnoticed". All of a sudden they believe in rehabilitation. |

Depart, I say; and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!" Sontaran - that's better than Bullet Head. But I doubt Hide takes anyone's advice on anything, so we may be a long time waiting. Like until the Tories put up a proper candidate in Epsom, and Epsom voters decide to put us all out of our misery of having Act foisted on us by one miserable electorate. |
