2010-09-20 05:20:00 | I'm siding with george12 on this one, since my issues with the same file were intermittent across browsers and it's a relatively large file... | johcar (6283) | |

2010-09-20 06:14:00 | Could be - if your internet connection is dodgy at the time. By the time the browser realizes it's a PDF and funds the appropriate EXE or plugin to use... :pf1mobmini:

2010-09-20 10:22:00 | 1.2Mb is large? I don't think it's REALLY 1.2MB. It's a 224 page document apparently. It's going to be larger than 1.2MB I suspect. The small size may be another symptom of an incomplete download.

2010-09-20 12:08:00 | Interesting, I encounter the exactly same symptoms again when I tried to load the PDF file on my ASUS netbook. Same error message popped up when I tried to open the file after having downloaded it (Firefox, Foxit PDF Reader / Adobe PDF Reader) There's definitely something unusual about this PDF file.

The small size may be another symptom of an incomplete download. Sorry, but I think you're misunderstanding how much size text takes up (even in PDF form). For example, I can go and download the whole text of wikipedia, compressed using BZ2 and in an XML container, and it weighs in at 6.1Gb. (here ('download.wikimedia.org) if you're interested, it's 'enwiki-latest-pages-articles.xml.bz2' that I'm refering to). That's 3.4 million articles. My point? You can fit a hell of a lot of text into small PDF's. I've seen 500+ pages at 15Mb, with images too. Edit; just downloaded it again, came in at 1.2Mb again. |

2010-09-20 20:29:00 | Hmmm, tried it again with my laptop this time - same config as my desktop FF and Foxit. It was fine on my desktop but on the lappie it got the message "Not a pdf or the file is corrupted". | John H (8) | |

2010-09-21 07:46:00 | The PDF file is definitely corrupted or not very well formatted on the server, it's just that different PDF readers (and even different versions) are and are not able to render it. As I said earlier, Sumatra PDF 1.0 couldn't render it, however Sumatra PDF 1.1 could, same file and everything. | sal (67) | |
