this review (au.xbox360.ign.com) is much more favourable and so are the 'player' reviews

1138112 2010-09-25 23:45:00 My first F1 game was Pole Position on the Atari 2600 in about 83......

Had a few on the C64 and Amiga, Pitstop 2 stands out in my memory for some reason, But the one that really boggled my mind was Indianapolis 500 on the Amiga.
Quite agree with you on the Indianapolis 500 on the Amiga. The car engine sounds really blew me away paticularly the doopler sound effects.

1138113 2010-09-27 00:23:00 Gamespot should stick to smoking crack and giving over-the-top scores to rubbish games like Grid and Dirt.

Having spent a couple hours yesterday with the Xbox version...

Definitely sits on the arcade side of the fence, Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, I suppose they need to go for the largest market. The driving model is pretty basic, its dead easy to throw in clean reasonable laps within a few minutes of starting the game. I found myself repeatedly checking to see If I had accidentally switched on an aid or missed one that was left on.

This allows you to drive the car in a fashion that wouldn't keep the car on the track in a sim-orientated title, the clutch would be gone, the gearbox would be blown apart, the brakes melted and the car would be in a fence. This does somewhat detract from the driving experience as there is a lot of satisfaction to be hand in coming to grips with a detailed physics model and putting in a good race.

There is supposedly "depth" in the game, but damn, if you can ignore it then its pointless and counts as little more then fluff, which brings me to the career, 100% fluff. Luckily that can be ignored completely.

Graphics-alright, they do the job, atmosphere at tracks is well done. Not overly impressed though.

Audio-I like it, suitable scream, No retarded music at stupid times, and they don't have a commentary, all pluses in my book.

Gameplay-Meh, coming from codemasters it could have been a lot worse. I'm enjoying it mostly.

Overall (based on very limited first impressions) 6/10

Worth buying, but not at the obscene price it is currently going for.
