1177715 2011-02-14 04:58:00 That's odd. I actually have that same board in a PC and never had that error. Perhaps I should get it going and try those drivers to see if I get the same problem.

Did you remove any old video drivers first? perhaps it's trying to use an older version of SiSBase.dll which doesn't include new code relevant to the new drivers.

Alternatively, you could just disable the keyhook.exe from loading at startup, you don't actually need it unless you want to use the hotkeys for the video driver (and I suspect you don't)

Further Update.

Whilst pondering what was going on, it occurred to me that there were two possibilities with the last problem.

1: The programme hadn’t installed the dll or

2: The registry was looking in the wrong place.

So I ran CCleaner and dumped 52meg’s of temporary files and ran the RegCleaner and disposed of 42 errors.

Went back and reinstalled the SiS drivers and all OK. :D

But the F’nnnnnnnnn Camera still doesn’t work.

Like you say Agent I’ve found the Asus Socket 478 boards reliable and although by way of inspection there seems little or no similarity between the P4S800-MX and the P4S800-MX-SE. The Motherboards are about as similar to look at as a VW and a Mini.

Electrically the may be very similar but only Asus would know.

Anyway, the temperature in my office is 34C with all the windows and ranch slider open and the temperature under my collar is 64C so it’s time for a cold ale. :D

1177716 2011-02-19 22:00:00 Ok, after a spell, through having run out of ideas, I decided to go right back to basics . So, I unplugged everything except the Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor and HDD . Yes even the CD ROM and FDD were unplugged .

I then plugged in the Webcam and believe it or not away it went . The sound and video are perfect .

I then plugged in the USB Wireless dongle and the Webcam Stopped, so I changed Wireless Dongles to a completely different manufacturer, bu:rolleyes:t the Webcam still stopped the moment the Dongle was plugged in . It started again the moment the Wireless Dongle was pulled out . There was no need to re-boot the computer or do anything .

So, I unplugged the Wireless Dongle and plugged in a Flash Drive and both the Webcam and Flash Drive worked fine together .

Clearly there is a conflict over resources between the Webcam and Wireless Dongle but Windows is not reporting any .

The strange thing is both the Webcam and Wireless Dongles work fine on other machines .

Got me licked .

1177717 2011-02-19 22:04:00 Sounds like a lack of power. What PSU is in it? The other computers are probably up to date as well. Yours isnt Speedy Gonzales (78)
1177718 2011-02-19 22:25:00 Try different USB ports? Agent_24 (57)
1177719 2011-02-20 00:24:00 Ok, starting at the top.

Speedy I swapped PSU’s but to no avail. One PSU had a 25 amp 5V Rail and the other a 20 amp 5V rail, so given the minimum load being pulled, both PSU’s should be more than adequate.

All my computers are XP SP2 with M$ excommunicated and the fact that two work fine doesn’t point to updates to me.

Yes Agent I tried every combination of the four rear ports in the Motherboard and after your post even hooked up the ports on the front panel and went through the combinations again, but exactly the same problem.

The whole thing is quite bizarre. :groan:

Sounds to me like an IRQ conflict. There may be a bios setting which can be altered which might fix that.

1177721 2011-02-20 01:34:00 Just a thought here. In the BIOS of the PC where the webcam does not work is a plug and play o/s selected? Snorkbox (15764)
1177722 2011-02-20 02:30:00 Well that caused a bit of excitement guys.

PNP was not set in the BIOS so I changed that, saved and booted whereby a notice came up on the screen that it was updating the E.?.?.? and away we went.

Unfortunately, despite my excitement, :crying exactly the same problem still exists.

In the meantime I had another bright idea whereby I’d plug in one of those little USB expander modules that give you another couple of USB ports. The Webcam worked fine alongside the module but as soon as I plugged the Wireless Dongle into the module that was it.

However, I’ll give the CMOS Setup a little more attention because that is a part that hasn’t been fully exploited. Quite what I’m looking for I don’t know :D but PNP not being turned on yet working as if it were has me scratching my head.

1177723 2011-02-20 02:44:00 You may need to install and fire up the device's software for it to work ...

I have a Logitech, if I start Skype, it should auto start the Logitech software but sometimes it doesn't I need to open up the Logitech software manually.

Also the microphone on mine isn't recognised under sound/motherboard icon (taskbar). It only works if I fire up the camera's software.

1177724 2011-02-20 03:08:00 Maybe you should give a BIOS update a try. Might be some weird bug that's causing the problem. Agent_24 (57)
