| 1178746 | 2011-02-16 21:09:00 | I know this is off topic, but speaking of 1Us, I've been thinking of getting myself a 1U unit, they seem to go reasonably cheap on TM, and I was wondering. How would i set it up at home? Something like this: tiny.cc Would it be usable at home? Is there some sort of mini rack I could get myself or should I just make something to hold it? Or would it just be too much pain? Sorry chill. :D Mate, the last thing you want at home is a U1 server!!!, get the U4 tower instead....I say this, because U1 servers have small fans that SCREAM!, seriously. There would be a place in your house that you could put the server without hearing it including the garage!...LOL... Im in the process of replacing a ML350 with 2 x DC 5130's w\12Gb for a host...It has 6 3&1/2" slots that take SAS or SATA drives and it has all the caddys.... This would be a perfect home server to put in the garage.... |

We have a couple in use on some socket-940 Opterons though and they are OK. We have what I am sure is a Thermaltake one that is on a Xeon 3040 (socket 775) but I have no idea where it was sourced from or if they're still available. |
