1177705 2011-02-13 20:58:00 Maybe you have some kind of problem with your video card drivers and video overlay or something is not working properly? Agent_24 (57)
1177706 2011-02-13 21:46:00 Might need a later version of DirectX. I think version 11 is out. Can check by typing dxdiag run box for XP. Or try find a driver finder program to check drivers/or any required. kahawai chaser (3545)
1177707 2011-02-13 22:01:00 DX 11 isnt for XP. Get this (www.microsoft.com) Speedy Gonzales (78)
1177708 2011-02-13 23:01:00 Another Update.

In desperation I purchased another Webcam, again Plug & Play no Drivers.

It is different in that the Mic is split from the USB and plugs into the Sound Card.

This one too works perfectly on the two good computers but although it is recognised on the troublesome computer it simply won’t work either. Although having said that Skype managed to get a frame to flick up whilst searching for the new Webcam but that was all. Now it won’t even do that. Yawcam had no luck either.

I should have mentioned that I checked the DirectX version and all run DirectX 9.c (4.09.0000.0904). It may have been loaded off XP SP2 which was installed from the same disk, as I mentioned earlier?????????

Anyway, I ran all the diagnostic programmes associated with DirectX 9.0c and had spinning cubes and bouncing white boxes with everything passing with flying colours.

I think we can safely say that the problem lies within the Motherboard or OS but how do we tell?

Could the problem be in the BIOS or CMOS setup?

1177709 2011-02-13 23:07:00 I doubt it's a hardware issue, sounds more like some software or driver issue.

What is your video card? Do you have the latest drivers? Do you have multiple monitors?

(By the way a program like Everest or a bootable Live CD of Ubuntu may help identify the webcam)

1177710 2011-02-13 23:53:00 If your motherboard/chip-set is based on KT133 there are known issues with web cams - see this forum: viaarena (www.viaarena.com). Mentions about IRQ resource sharing from web cam and cards trying to as well. Though it's from a while ago, maybe try find if other motherboards have similar issue. Work around include installing a earlier version of windows on partition/external drive or to use a USB card. kahawai chaser (3545)
1177711 2011-02-14 01:52:00 Thanks for that link Kahawai chaser. You have no idea how much better I feel knowing others have been driven mad by similar problems. :D

However, I don’t think we can blame the KT122 Chipset here because the Asus P4S800-MX Motherboard has a SiS 661FX Chipset and everything else is SiS as well.

The Motherboard is not all that old being socket 478 and there are probably a million of them that haven’t given this sort of trouble. As I said in an earlier post the Desktop that works has a similar Motherboard the only difference it having a SE added to its part number making it a P4S800-MX-SE.

Agent, the faulty computer doesn’t have a Video Card so is running off On-Board Video driving a 17” Monitor. Everything in the Video Department seems to be running fine. As far as I know all the Drivers are the latest, well the latest on the Asus site anyway. And finally Everest only describes the camera as a USB Video Device which was how it described both cameras.

Anyway, I’ll try installing a Video Card just for fun and a USB Card as well.

Watch this space. :D

1177712 2011-02-14 02:32:00 Video card or integrated video, same thing really, both are your GPU.

I wouldn't assume that the drivers from Asus are up to date. Better to try the latest ones from SiS themselves: www.sis.com

1) Select Windows XP in the first box
2) Select IGP Graphics drivers in the 2nd box
3) Select SiS66x/SiS76x/SiS67x in the 3rd box and select Go.
4) Download latest file named "R393_logo.zip"

Well, further complications. :crying

I downloaded the correct package “R393_logo.Zip Ver 3.91” and all went well until the reboot when I got the following message:

Keyhook.exe – Entry Point Not Found

The Procedure entry point ?ReadKeyString@CSiSReg
@@ SAHPADOHOPAUKEY - @@K@Z could not be located in the dynamic library SiSBase.dll

The plot thickens, but this could be the clue that we’re looking for if anyone can understand the gobbledygook. :D

1177714 2011-02-14 04:26:00 That's odd. I actually have that same board in a PC and never had that error. Perhaps I should get it going and try those drivers to see if I get the same problem.

Did you remove any old video drivers first? perhaps it's trying to use an older version of SiSBase.dll which doesn't include new code relevant to the new drivers.

Alternatively, you could just disable the keyhook.exe from loading at startup, you don't actually need it unless you want to use the hotkeys for the video driver (and I suspect you don't)
