1) Yes
2) Better off, encourages saving and buying a home etc
3) Rarely. Once every 2-3 months
4) It won't
5) Once every 1-2 months
6) It won't
It's also worth noting we buy the occasional one or download it from the likes of iTunes. The changes in GST etc won't affect that. It's honestly not worth worrying about.

For most people, adjusting Kiwisaver from 4% -> 2% would be enough to offset things. If you're already on 2%, then good on ya ;)

1137159 2010-09-15 00:39:00 Hmmmmmm. Shouldn't a student doing an Economics assignment know that there is no General Sales Tax in NZ. Presumably you are referring to Goods and Services Tax. :)

You are right, I never stopped to think about it as I was writing my report.

I think I have enough answers from here and elsewhere. Thank you all for taking the time to answer.

Yes
2) Do you think you will better or worse off?
If no, why?
I think I will be better off since I save more than I spend. Now that I think about it, the price of everything will increase, so not really sure.

Never

5) How often do you go to the movies?
A couple of times a month on average (2/month if you need a number)

1137164 2010-09-20 03:22:00 haha, i never went to the movies, and my salary is too low that i can not reach the tax standard, so there is no tax affecting on me faith1806 (15972)
1137165 2010-09-20 03:37:00 1) Are you aware of the coming changes in income and general sales tax?
Income tax & Goods & Services Tax changes, yes. As a previous poster pointed out, NZ does not have a General Sales Tax, and you would do well to ensure you realise this for any exams or assignments ;)

2) Do you think you will better or worse off?
If no, why?
Better off. The income tax reduction will increase net income, of course, and I can write off enough purchases as business expenses that the GST rise should not be too significant.

3) How often do you rent DVDs?
Fatso subscription.

4) How will tax changes affect the number of DVDs you rent?
Not at all.

5) How often do you go to the movies?
Rarely.

6) How will tax changes affect how often you go to the movies?
Not at all.
