| 1178794 | 2011-02-16 03:58:00 | Hi, I have been trying to find a short course on programming in JAVA, or about the fundamentals of the Java Programming Language or anything related to entry level, but it seems hard to find any institute which provides them. Funny enough, there are thousands courses available about .Net but nothing significant shows up when I google JAVA courses. Does anyone know of a place where one can have a short courses (week-long or evening courses) in Auckland? :help: I dislike e-learning because it is hard for entry level. Thanks for the hints |

It'll be two calsses a week max. ~500$ and from recognized institution. But learning the syntax is pretty simple, and I am sorry to say you won't get far if you aren't all that into e-learning. .Net > Java :). The syntax for Java and C# is pretty much identical, too. |

| 1178797 | 2011-04-04 00:20:00 | Thanks folks. I have done the basic online tutor but I need a proper course with a good interaction with a teacher who would answer specific questions. I know I won't learn much in a quick course but I need that fundamental initial push that we get with courses like .Net, SQL server etc. Cato, I checked Unitech website and couldn't find a thing. MIT run one course but they run it only once a year and it has started weeks ago.... Do you have a name of an institute or a URL I can go to? I am just surprised that there are no easy courses to teach people fundamentals of Java or advanced Java.. Really surprised (and frustrated).. |

| 1178798 | 2011-04-04 01:44:00 | Are you wanting to learn how to program, or simply how to write Java syntax and / or use the standard libraries? These are two very different (albeit related) subjects. As a general rule, nobody runs short courses for language syntax & standard libraries, because the people who would attend them already know how to program, and are therefore usually better off simply finding a textbook or other reference source for the particular language they're interested in. There are a few exceptions, but they're definitely not common. There are plenty of introductory courses that teach you how to program (although not necessarily how to design good software). Generally the knowledge gained in these courses is language-agnostic; the same techniques and rules will apply to most languages you are likely to come across. This means that you can apply your new skills to the Java language, regardless of what the course happens to be taught with (these days, this is often C#). |
