| 1178736 | 2011-02-16 03:03:00 | Hi all, I'm not sure if I posted this before, but I can't search because "1U" is too short of a search phrase ;) Anyways, again I'm after a 1U CPU + Heatsink that supports virtualization. Preferably one that doesn't cost the earth and is readily available in Auckland? I'd also like it if the place sold coffee while I waited ;) Just kidding ... :devil Anyways, any ideas? Thanks in advance Chill. |

Also, what kind of space constraints are we talking about here? 1U servers tend to have pretty particular layouts. And an IU CPU, is what exactly? A xeon CPU or something? He means a CPU & heatsink combo that is intended to fit in a 1U rack chassis. |

So something like a mini-itx moboNot quite - a 1U rack chassis is normally used for servers and audio equipment, and looks something like this (1userverrack.net). Wikipedia explains it quite well here (en.wikipedia.org). | Erayd (23) | ||

| 1178742 | 2011-02-16 20:01:00 | I know this is off topic, but speaking of 1Us, I've been thinking of getting myself a 1U unit, they seem to go reasonably cheap on TM, and I was wondering. How would i set it up at home? Something like this: tiny.cc Would it be usable at home? Is there some sort of mini rack I could get myself or should I just make something to hold it? Or would it just be too much pain? Sorry chill. :D |

It just serves as an easy way of mounting stuff tidily with little visible cable mess and suitable ventilation. some musicians buy rack equipment then sit it on top of their amps. It works, although it doesn't look the tidiest. |

| 1178744 | 2011-02-16 20:56:00 | Yeah right now I've got a 1U server (Dual-core Atom, so no virtualization) sitting above my TiVo in the middle of my TV Cabinet. Should take a picture coz it looks relatively tidy, and it fits *perfectly* too! I just bought myself a similar model to the link you posted, last night, for $31! :D |
