1178319 2011-02-15 00:08:00 IBM ThinkPad T43 (type 2668, Model 84M)
had 40Gb ide hard drive
upgraded to a WD 80Gb hdd

but wont accept -
when boot get a warning: "The hard disc you have installed doesn't qualify for use in this computer."

- is recognized in the bios
- IBM website had hard drive firmware update utility, ran, recognized the WD hdd, and said no firmware update is necessary.

Thinkpad bios 1.29 (1YET65WW) 2006-08-21

Can this hard drive work in the ThinkPad,
if so, how can I get it to be accepted?

1178322 2011-02-15 02:46:00 Why not just do the BIOS mod? Agent_24 (57)
1178323 2011-02-15 03:10:00 I didn't see anything in the bios that would allow a modification to accept the hdd. NZHawk (4093)
1178324 2011-02-15 03:14:00 You need some kind of hack. It wont be in the BIOS. But if you do it wrong, you'll probably kill it completely Speedy Gonzales (78)
1178325 2011-02-15 03:28:00 I didn't see anything in the bios that would allow a modification to accept the hdd.

I mean you would reflash the BIOS with a modified one.

See here: www.thinkwiki.org

Looks like he's got a flash program and the new BIOS all in an archive.

Just download the correct file, extract the contents and run the program. Select the new BIOS file if you need to, and do it.

Note it's a winflash program so you will need to put the old drive back in I guess.
