1179912 2011-02-20 05:15:00 Hi

I have Windows 7 O.S.

I am having trouble pinning items to the quick launch task bar (at the bottom of the screen)

I do have about 5 items pinned in the task bar but programs like "Revo Uninstaller" and "Nvidia control panel" will not pin here or relocate from my desktop short cuts.

Also the same applies to any Internet Explorer web page shortcuts.

With my old Vista O.S. I could place the programs/shortcuts here.

Any ideas as to what the problem is?

Web pages are pinned to Internet Explorer's Jump list (right-click) :)

1179914 2011-02-20 05:39:00 Have a read of This here (lifehacker.com) - MS dont always make things plain sailing :D

If you have a shortcut to an application, you should be able to right click it, Pin to task bar

I will try the method outlined in your link. Its some runabout. Nothing like a good challenge

1179916 2011-02-20 07:57:00 Bizarre. I just tried it. (Revo) It's a normal shortcut icon, but no, no option to pin, nor does dragging it work either. pctek (84)
1179917 2011-02-20 20:38:00 pinning things is not actually using the quick launch which is hidden by default, although the effect is very similar.

Right click the task bar, choose toolbars and enable the quick launch, unlock the taskbar as well and drag the side of the quick launch until it has enough room. You should then be able to drag and drop shortcuts onto it or use the quicklaunch option in some installers. Th icons are smaller but it works.

1179918 2011-02-20 20:47:00 Right click the task bar, choose toolbars and enable the quick launch

The thing is Windows 7 hides Quick Launch by default - you have to add it manually.

1179919 2011-02-21 06:51:00 I managed to pin "Revo Unistaller", but..... I had to change the name before I could pin same to the task bar, ie "Revo". Strange... Must be something to do with the word "unistaller"

I have not yet found a solution to pin any Internet Explorer web page shortcuts.

Anyone achieved this yet

1179920 2011-02-21 06:58:00 I found this: www.west-wind.com

That explains why you can't pin Revo Uninstaller.

1179921 2011-02-21 17:55:00 sorry I posted from work and got it wrong.

Right click the taskbar
choose toolbars, new toolbar
put
%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
in the address bar
Quick launch is now added

full guide here:

just to restate, pinning things onto the task bar is not the same as using quicklaunch
