1179895 2011-02-20 03:29:00 hi
just brought a 2tb samsung external hard drive from harvey norman($94)
i would like to put my dvd collection on it in avi format
Q: will nero 7 or 9 do this for me or do i need some other program to do it
also i would like to split each disk up (each stargate disk has 4 episodes)
so each episode is its own avi file

1179896 2011-02-20 04:18:00 Why not make an ISO of each DVD and mount on a virtual drive?

Also are these DVDs copy protected or what?

no the dvds are not copy protected
also i know my tv will play avi files strate for a external hard drive
so no need to run through a Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player
or silimaler

1179898 2011-02-20 05:02:00 Handbrake (handbrake.fr/) will do them, but wont convert to AVI - that format is now outdated. Other wise AutoGK (http:) will do avi. If you try Auto GK I'd suggest you read the tutorial. wainuitech (129)
1179899 2011-02-20 06:24:00 cool will give them both a try

1179900 2011-02-20 20:14:00 avi is just a container and it can contain videos of many different formats (codecs). Check your TV manual to see what type of formats it supports. It will probably be DivX of some variety but if the TV is new it may do mp4.
If it supports mp4, use Handbrake to convert your DVDs.
If DivX, use AutoGK.
