1138370 2010-09-21 09:03:00 WANT! but what do they want to prove?

Telstra doesn't provide everyone and it only covers main city's and suburbs around the city. Places like Porirua Masterton Khandallah Jhonsonville etc are left out,

Govt broadband FTW.

1138371 2010-09-21 09:06:00 Plus Telstra are the only provider who has access to their network. One of the big attractions of the govt fibre scheme is it's open-access, so anyone can use it to provide a service. It's about a lot more than simply having a single fast ISP available. Erayd (23)

I've never taken any notice of the cables round CHCH. Are they really any worse than existing overhead power & phone lines?

It wouldn't bother me, but khandallah is one of the wealthiest suburbs in the country, with some of the snobbiest people in the country.

Which is what I was getting at on my last post, what are telstra trying to do? be the next telecom with a massive fiber monopoly? Govt plan looks much more promising. also becuase because it will be used by all (or most) of the ISP's then it will be generating plenty of income and can therefore be maintained and expanded

1138377 2010-09-22 13:15:00 Not really ...

Besides, why pass up 100m/bit now, opting instead to wait another decade? Seems silly to me.
