Yes, you won't be able to use smtp.clear.net.nz because you are not logged onto the Internet using Clear Net.

We might be lucky to be able to use pop.clear.net.nz because in the past unless they changed; you are supposed to purchase Mail+ which cost $5/month to get your emails from another ISP. If it all fails, maybe contact Clear Net and ask them if the Mail+ service allows you to use their smtp server too when you are with another ISP.

1179601 2011-02-18 22:07:00 Thats like when I up email on the cell. I couldn't use it, since its Telecom and I was with Xnet (at the time). But, then I changed to Telstra, then set it up again. And it worked. I used the email, when I went to the Sth Island. Never had a prob with it. Speedy Gonzales (78)
1179602 2011-02-19 05:03:00 We are on Xnet at home and the parents use the clear email account from our backup dial up connection, if you want I could check the settings. nedkelly (9059)
1179603 2011-02-19 05:07:00 Just found the email so I am going to post it now:

Hi there

Yes, you will have to use smtp.xnet.co.nz, or get a static IP at
xnet.co.nz
Make sure the authentication is turned off, we don't use it on the Xnet
SMTP.

Hi

I currently have two email accounts, One with you (my broadband
provider)
and another with TelstraClear (my spare dial up connection).

I can receive emails fine from Clear but when I try to send them I get
the
error message "Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail
server.
If you continue to receive this message, contact your server
administrator
or Internet service provider (ISP)"

Is there something blocking access from port 25 to clear's SMTP
server?

1179604 2011-02-19 12:54:00 You could try the clear smtp but turn on authentication and use the same details that you have for the incoming pop server.

1179605 2011-02-20 01:10:00 You cant, it will not work.
You can only access smtp for clear if you are on their network.
