1180162	2011-02-21 04:51:00	Family member has a dell 3100 dimension running 2 x 512MB Ram modules. I have googled the motherboard - Model number 0wj770 and it looks like I can increase this to 2gb max i.e 2 x1GB modules The current modules have 512MB 1RX8 PC2-4200-444 written on them. How do I know what speed of new Ram I can install ? The current ram is DDR2 i believe. Do i need to stick to DDR2 or can I install DDR3. Not the most clued up on Ram and timings etc..Sorry :confused Should increasing the memory make a noticeable difference to the daily use of the machine. Just appears to be very sluggish when opening programs etc? Thanks for the help Ged	Gedc (11466)
1180163	2011-02-21 05:35:00	Doesn't matter as long as the generation is the same. i.e. you can plug a DDR2-800 RAM into a slot only supporting DDR2-667. The RAM will only be running at 667mhz, though. However you can't "skip" generations i.e. you can't plug DDR3 RAM into DDR2 slots. The slot won't match the stick, anyway. So, in short, any DDR2 RAM will work, but they won't be running much faster than your present RAM. Nevertheless, more ram = good thing. p.s. The RAM in your existing computer seems to be DDR2-533. Not the fastest, but the capacity upgrade should make your system faster, for sure. p.s.2 I hope I haven't make the explanation too confusing	LynX (14542)
