1179790 2011-02-19 09:00:00 Well I finally bought myself an MP3 player and in hindsight I might just back to playing cds .

I bought a Philips MP3 player (not on the Apple stuff - I love the way you HAVE to use iTunes) and am impressed with the sound quality, anyway, I have ripped a number of my CD's and it is surprising the number of tracks that jump in one way or other . Some just dropout for . 5 second or some and some just miss a very small amount of the track . It drives me nuts (the original cd's are fine) .

I did a search using Mr Google and there quite a bit out there about it (even on those Apple things) . So I took it back to Mr DSE and the quy said the likely problem was corrupt MP3 files . Eh . . . do you use a slow pc . No - I have a year old laptop . Sometimes the files can get corrupted when they are copied to the player . Well I would have thought that the copy mechanism (I used the supplied software), would have detected if a file was not transferred successfully - am I asking too much .

So this technology is flawed . I have done everything right (I think) and I still get skipping tracks . Maybe the player has a problem .

1179791 2011-02-19 09:04:00 You dont have to use Itunes for Ipods. There are free programs that can sync with Ipods. I take it you have to connect it to a USB port to sync?? Does it support drop and drag? Speedy Gonzales (78)

Try using a different ripper. Never had a problem with drop out or anything the entire time ripping cds or using mp3 players

1179793 2011-02-19 09:50:00 I'm with Plod, try using a different ripper. There's also the chance if you're ripping something semi-recently authored then it's the copy protection skipping. How does it sound on your laptop?

1179794 2011-02-19 21:33:00 Whats the supplied software that you are using to rip the CD's ?

I use a free CD Ripper that was suggested on these forums many moons ago called CDex available from http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/

What sort of MP3 player. iPod or a plain jane DSE MP3 player.

I have a DSE MP3 player from about 5 years ago, USB, once I have ripped the music and checked the files, I just drag and drop/copy paste straight into the DSE player.

Of course, there maybe copyright protection on the CD you are ripping from that is causing drop outs as punishment for you ripping the music onto a portable device.

1179795 2011-02-20 20:52:00 In an Hilarious bit of irony I find windows media player rips protected CD's just fine these days - older versions didn't and microsoft certainly never mentioned this change but it seems to work fine for me. It does still default to WMA and no surprises there but they also added support for MP3 at decent bitrates some time ago.

CDex is quite old and a little slow but it does work very well also.

Certainly you should not end up with skipping MP3's often if at all, if the files skip on the pc then they are not ripping properly, if it's only on the player either the format/bitrate is not fully supported or the player is faulty.
