1180720 2011-02-22 20:43:00 I read that webcam chats require a min of 256k upload or 512k pref. What have your experiences been? Hearing my voice echo to their mic, it sounded a bit slow.

Also, I have a webcam which has a mic feature. In your experience how do you minimise speaker echo to the mic at an "acceptable level"? Could I get away by not using a headset?

Thanks.

1180721 2011-02-22 20:51:00 You dont need a headset if the cam has a mic. If you want to use the headset, change it under tools / options / audio settings. Thats probably why its echoing the cam is picking up the headset, when you talk.

According to the skype site.

For voice calls recommend broadband connection with 100 kbps down / 100 kbps up.

We recommend you use a high-speed broadband connection of 4Mbps down / 512kbps up and a computer with a Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz processor. As a minimum you’ll need a high-speed broad connection of 512kbps down / 128kbps up and a computer with a 1 GHz processor.

1180722 2011-02-22 20:56:00 That echo is probably because they've got speakers and a mic and it's reverbing. Tell them to get a headset, or turn down the sensitivity of the Mic & decreased speaker volume. Chilling_Silence (9)
1180723 2011-02-22 21:05:00 Thanks. The Logitech cam has a builtin mic but if I just use normal PC speakers or a stereo ... that should be fine?

Haven't got speakers yet, just using my Sony headphones.

I talk to my brother on Skype every now and then, IIRC he has a shitty 256k connection. Not the greatest, but it works alright.

Yes, that's ideal, use headphones, but what does the person you're chatting with use?

Speakers + Mic causes echo for the other party

Dunno yet, they did have a wireless headset with mic with their laptop but I think they got a i7 PC :p with my echo I assume they have a std speaker + mic set up.

On a FS/128 it does the job but hearing my echo it's slowish. Maybe I would upgrade in due time ...

If you really want to screw things up, choose wave\stereo mix as your recording device!
