1180669 2011-02-22 07:19:00 I'm not quite sure where to go with this problem...

I have just bought the COD Black Ops DVD. I insert the disc, click 'install' and get the message 'failed to run install script'.

I've found a command prompt fix that goes like this...

"Open Command Prompt (Start>Run>Type CMD)
2. Browse to your Steam Directory, By default this is C:/Program Files/Steam/. Do this by typing "CD C:/Program Files/Steam/"
3. Type "steam.exe -install E:". E Is my CD drive letter, Please change this according to your drive letter. The game should then install."

But what is the syntax I must use as I have Windows 7 64bit, the Steam directory is in x86 and I don't know how to modify the command prompt to get me to that directory.

1180670 2011-02-22 07:25:00 That is the fix for if you have purchased a game off steam and want to install the game off a disk rather than download it. Was it purchased on steam/steam redeemable (retail games that must/game be installed on steam that appear as official products)? icow (15313)
1180671 2011-02-22 08:12:00 cd \
cd "Program Files (x86)"
cd Steam
steam.exe -install E:

Thanks! Command prompts always do my head in.

But with copy and paste they can make life a lot easier. It is easier to give someone a few lines they can copy and paste into a command prompt than to have them clicking here there and everywhere.

1180676 2011-02-22 14:43:00 Best to install using the "run as administrator" as the program files directories are protected by Windows 7. Best to install stuff in another drive if at all possible to avoid these issues. Even you have admin rights the "run as administrator" does give you extra rights. veldthui (15543)
