1139927 2010-09-27 04:24:00 Will this win votes though?

1139928 2010-09-27 04:34:00 It's a grand idea! Won't win votes though.

Should be extended to meat, eggs, milk and bread too. Then they'd get my vote. (Not really.)

If we were another country, we would be on the streets protesting this GST increase, call a general strike and run Key out of office. Life is gonna be tougher starting next week, as if it weren't hard enough already. :(
I'll take anything that makes it easier.

1139929 2010-09-27 04:38:00 Did they not have 9 years to do this before Key got in if they really wanted to? Snorkbox (15764)
1139930 2010-09-27 04:38:00 It may win a few votes, but realistically it has minimal effect on people's bills - it sounds a whole lot better than what you actually get out of it, and costs quite a bit to implement. Erayd (23)

This is obviously reactionary to the GST rise that Key has brought in.

1139932 2010-09-27 04:41:00 Can someone please explain to LL that election promises aren't real .... they are a figment of the imagination designed solely for the purpose of getting a person into a position of power where they get thousands of dollars worth of taxpayers $$$$ in the form of perks like free air travel .... Thai workers to tile their "home away from home" on a Pacific Island .... and generally screw everyone for everything they can get !!

My rant for Monday ... feel much better now ....

1139933 2010-09-27 05:35:00 It's an expensive change which will have very little impact to everyday NZers. Saving families $6/week off their grocery bills is not worth the millions of dollars retailers will need to spend to bring their systems into compliance - for large supermarkets it means changes to their POS systems, and for smaller retailers who are using older style tills, it'll mean costly upgrades - all costs which will be passed onto the consumer.

The best thing people can do to save money on fresh fruit and vegetables is to stop buying it from the supermarket, and buy it from a farmer's market or similar instead. It's fresher, and you'll save much more than 15% compared to a supermarket.

Will it win votes: probably, because it's one of those reactive topics where people don't stop to think what the real impact to it will have to their lives.

1139935 2010-09-27 06:07:00 Labour say that they will get the 250 million to scrap the GST on fruit and veges from the health budget. Obviously they have never tried to get kids to eat greens and stay healthy,

The only greens I would eat are the likes of Sue Bradford after she is put in a slow cooker.
