1140668 2010-10-01 00:44:00 at worst, basically if you plugged it into a PAL tv your picture will be screwed.

What will you do with movies once the tape/disc/drive is full?
Yeah don't confuse people.

1140669 2010-10-01 01:02:00 Thanks for your feedback . It does however leave me really confused as i now have two different lots of feedback, some say yes and some say no to NTSC being ok in NZ .

I wouldn't import an NTSC camera designed for a 30Hz frame rate . Yes, the colour can usually be decoded ok, but there are other fish-hooks that make it a problematic choice .

Sure you can do standards conversion and colour playback is not a problem, but you live in a PAL 50Hz country and frame rates may ultimately cause you more headaches than you want or need . It is not worth a few dollars savingings if that is what's driving you .

1140670 2010-10-01 01:13:00 I sort of wonder , now TV's are pretty much HD, 1080,720, why we still
have the 60 & 50 scan rates(wrong term??) for different countries. I doubt they would still
be using main freq for a internal freq reference/generator.

They are only used for analogue TV. LCD's etc don't have scan rates. Some people still use analogue TVs hence why the system is still in use but it will die out.

They may not have scan rates, but they still have 50Hz frame rates and will continue to do so, even when digital arrives across the board.

It is frame rates that are the potential issue, not scan rates and conversion is required to get 60 into 50, which may produce unwanted visual artifacts if the original camera source was a budget model.

1140673 2010-10-02 04:11:00 most tv's these days are international and will handle NTSC/PAL/SECAM.
however not all are auto ie you have to manually switch it and most people have no idea how to do that.
getting a PAL one just makes it a lot simpler later on.
