1181301 2011-02-25 00:57:00 I will hold my hands up, I am running a pirated copy of Windows 7 Professional.

I want to go legit and buy a copy, is may not be Windows 7 Professional because I don't need all its functions.

The question can I keep all installed programs and install Windows 7?

1181302 2011-02-25 01:01:00 If the programs you want are legal or free ones theres no reason you cant reinstall them.

Using illegal programs sooner or later will come back to bite ya where you sit one way or another :D

Best bet, save any data, reinstall W7 Legally, then put the programs back.

1181303 2011-02-25 01:24:00 As Wainui said, doing a fresh install is the best way. If you REALLY want to avoid that, if you got a legit copy of Win7 Pro, you *may* be able to do an upgrade install, which would keep your data and software. All depends on how much the pirated cope has been messed with.

A fresh install is always the best option in this case.

1181304 2011-02-25 02:03:00 It's not rocket science figuring out how to do that, but it *is* against the rules to ask for advice on them.

That and Nathan Mercer from Microsoft lurks these forums, I'm not sure how happy they would be about that ;)

Welcome to the Forums, but I suggest you make a new Username, and start off on a slightly better note here.
