2011-02-23 06:43:00 | I have a "Buffalo" brand External HDD containing a 320GB Samsung SATA drive connected via USB 2.0 to my AcerPower S Series running XPSP2. Last time (2 days ago) TuneUp Utilities did a check on it, it had 92GB free, but was fragmented badly. I now can't start it up. When I do, it hangs on one file and can't seem to get past it (Autoplay). How the hell do I recover? I'm at a loss. Thanks.

2011-02-23 06:45:00 | possibly that file is corrupted. can you access any other files on it? | ronyville (10611) | |
2011-02-23 06:52:00 | Yeah, clearly it's corrupted lol and no I can't access anything on it at all. I was wondering if re-installing the drive program may help?

2011-02-23 08:54:00 | Try disabling autorun. See here windowssecrets.com | linw (53) | |
2011-02-23 11:54:00 | Thanks linw, but Autorun isn't the problem (I don't think) as even with the comp turned off, the HDD hangs on startup. | IowaOz (16248) | |
2011-02-23 12:12:00 | Just tried the Autorun fix....(thanks BTW). No luck. | IowaOz (16248) | |
2011-02-23 23:00:00 | Last time (2 days ago) TuneUp Utilities did a check on it, it had 92GB free, but was fragmented badly. have a carefull listen for any clicks, clunks and wirr wirr wirr (spinup) sounds did 'tuneup utils' try & defrag it ?? or do anything else with it. ?? remove from case, connect to pc as a 2nd HD. Run a data recovery program on it. Or try ghosting to another drive, that sometimes works Also try chkdsk /R Then bin both the HD & case, unless you dont mind risking this again..

2011-02-23 23:46:00 | Yes, TUU DID try to defrag it and that was the start of the troubles I think. Unfortunately, I don't have a 2nd PC with SATA capability, as my Acer S is a 2002 model and is EIDE. There are no clicks or odd sounds....just as quiet as usual. If and when I do recover the data, I will be tossing the thing and just take a bath on the purchase of a new one lol.
