1142234 2010-10-06 23:11:00 No one will ever get my encryption keys, its encrypted for a reason and my privacy is worth the cost, big brother can get F&#ked.

I say good on them, take the hit, protect civil liberties.

Read it properly
He was suspected but they never actually proved it, he could be completely innocent.

1142236 2010-10-06 23:24:00 Mac OS X has had the feature to encrypt your home folder in it for ages now nedkelly (9059)
1142237 2010-10-06 23:47:00 I beleive that Singapore Customs can also ask for your laptop password if they take a interest in you and take a quick and dim view of you if you decline.

In the case of teen ager in the UK, he has been caught up in suspected child porn investigation though without access to his computer, there is no proof if he has commited any wrong or not.

Question is, is he refusing access to his password / computer because he has something to hide or is he refusing access on principal with nothing to hide.

1142238 2010-10-06 23:54:00 That is the question PinoyKiw but the answer doesn't matter.
Privacy is privacy.

I for one am very glad to know that we finally have robust enough encryption available that big brother cannot crack.

I consider everything from photos of my son in the womb to my favourite save games to be all personal data I would not be willing to share. I would take the jail time on sheer principle then investigate my options for legal action against them.

I agree also DeSade
But i would think the law would reprive any compensation from the people or system that had you locked up.
I imagine it would be similar to the terrorism law

1142240 2010-10-07 00:19:00 In that case they would create a very vocal and militant protester against their actions.

I take a very dim view of big brother.
