1141976 2010-10-05 23:54:00 Oh well . . . more on the student loan, back to the books .

Was doing well until now .
Comptia A+ got mid 70s, Network+ early 90s .
MCP internal exam at school failed it 57% (needs 60%) then got 74%, external 67% (needs 70%) .

:waughh:

1141977 2010-10-06 00:17:00 MS Exams are a b*tch!, they purposely state the questions to confuse...must be there way of ensuring you understand the question as you really have to think about it...

I will have SQL Exams if I take a couple of courses I have my eye on...the trainers guarantee a pass....LOL

1141978 2010-10-06 00:58:00 Oh well ...
Correction, I think I got mid 80s for A+. Network+ was early 90s.
XP install, implementation and configurring - LOL.

I find the XP exam - not that aligned with MS's own book nor their practice questions. They are less wordy but they really confuse you. I kept circling between 2 choices.
Maybe that they ask questions that you might need work experience for. It's wasn't what's wrong with this or how to fix it, it was of these possible ways what's the best, what's the quickest, what's the way to do it now for ever and what about using "alternative" setttings. What do you do first. Do you do this before this or after this.

I failed one of my MCP exams on first go - answered it as server rather than client - duh .
Passed on resit .
**** happens, have another go, you'll pass no problem next time .

1141981 2010-10-06 11:08:00 They are hard. Best way is just to study the material VERY thouroughly, then do lots of practice tests, and despite temptation, don't sit the real one until you can get 85% consistently on practice tests.

Disclaimer: I have only done one (but got 91%) :P

1141982 2010-10-06 19:28:00 Didn't fail any on the way to MCSE, I would strongly suggest don't use any MS study guides only use 3rd party .

FYI Cisco exams are a fair bit harder than MS exams due to time pressure .

1141983 2010-10-06 19:38:00 Cisco exams are a *****
For people who have taken Microsoft and Comptia exams the big difference is the fact you click next on a question and thats it can not go back to change your answer at all.

Best place to go for practice exams is http://www.examcollection.com/ only thing is you need the software to open the files, but luckily I have a LEGAL copy of it given to me when I did my course.
If people would like a copy pm me for more information.

1141984 2010-10-07 21:52:00 I'm doing some of the measureup.com practice questions, it's dumb.

It's says dual boot WinME and WinXP. It has 3 internal HDDs.

C: has WinME so FAT32.
D: has private files so NTFS.
E: is a network shared for quota so NTFS.

Fine but me thinks, for an org, how can a WinME employee user access a NTFS network share - LOL. :sleep

At times they confuse the person using the word "user" and assuming it means user group and at other times assuming it means all other users (meaning people). They don't put the word "group" in it.

1141985 2010-10-07 23:42:00 It says dude gets a new XP PC. Congrats. Wants to use the printer.

Answer says, they should install the printer locally first rather than create a new network attached printer cos it's not yet shared. But .... the question says the dude wants to "use the printer". One would assume the company is not brand new out of the box from day 1. One would assume the company is already BAU and one dude gets a new PC.

Rant over ..
