| 1141867 | 2010-10-05 04:46:00 | The new right gives way to left rather than the current left gives way to right rule, doesn't come into effect till I think 2012 ..... But it appears that some people are already enacting the future change. Twice today I have come across people that have failed to observe the current left gives way to right. First instance was a elderly lady with myself turning left and her turning right, no other traffic involved, she just sat there and waved at me to go first. As luck would have it, she ended up following me into the same shopping car park so I had a chat with her, she was positive that the new rules were in effect and wouldn't take no for a answer. Second case was I was turning right and middle aged guy turning left, failed to give way, almost broadsided us with his hand on the horn and waving his middle finger at us before blasting past us with his hand still on the horn with his middle finger out the window for all to see. |

Unless of course, you want your tombstone to say: Here lies the late Mr XXX Still determined to exercise his right of way! Cheers Billy 8-{) It took many years and more than a few close calls to persuade Mrs T not to do Formula One starts at the lights, when the opposing cross-traffic was still charging through on the red. |

Saved me more than once by turning the other cheek and letting some one else go even though you know 110% who was right and who was wrong. Better to have the car (and yourself) in one piece than all the paper work that insurance entails. |

There should be a system for "news suppression" (like name suppression) so that govt (parliament) could pass traffic regulations but keep them from the media until one month before it takes effect! | coldot (6847) | ||
| 1141873 | 2010-10-07 06:59:00 | If they had not spent so much time bumbling and talking about it for the past several years then it could have been passed into legislation to coincide with October 1st and all the other changes . Lets put it this way in all my years driving I never assume that whats should happen is going to happen, the give way rule is no exception . Come on motorists I see every day are unsure what double yellow lines mean and what they should not do, why should turning traffic be any different? |

Agree, people just don't read things correctly and then there is the old Chinese whispers as well. |
