I need a way to boot from a flash drive as my USB floppy drive is not working. I have downloaded the latest bios and everything

1182596 2011-03-15 05:53:00 Set the BIOS to boot from a USB drive, then - and it will.

If you want to install W7 from a USB drive, you can use something like the tool from MS "Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool" Download from here (majorgeeks.com) MS have pulled the download link from their site, but its still available elsewhere. It requires an ISO or you can try winsetupfrom USB available from several places.

Edited: Just uploaded it to here (www.box.net) It works good for installing XP Via USB, and says it will do W7 but have not tried it. It will also transfer from a CD/DVD instead of an ISO.

1182597 2011-03-15 05:57:00 You need to have the USB drive plugged before hitting the on switch, otherwise the BIOS can't see it. Been caught out that way myself gary67 (56)
1182598 2011-03-15 08:28:00 It detects it but it just won't boot from it. bot (15449)
1182599 2011-03-15 08:52:00 Try this program "Flashboot" www.prime-expert.com

Demo will be good enough for one use

1182600 2011-03-15 09:36:00 It detects it but it just won't boot from it. What did you use to transfer Windows 7 to the flash Drive ?

Both those programs I listed work fine (just tried the second one)

1182601 2011-04-03 04:44:00 OMG I have finally figured out the problem!

You need to set the audio driver mode in the BIOS to "Vista" for it to install! Weird

1182602 2011-04-03 04:47:00 Doesn't sound that weird to me.. Vista and Win7 are similar, so that makes sense at least

Although I have never seen any BIOS setting like that before, but I guess they must have their reasons!

I thought it was weird that you had to change a setting in the HD audio for it to function. Must be a driver thing or something

1182604 2011-04-03 05:15:00 Yeah that part does seem a little odd, since I've not seen that before

But then again I don't have many Intel chipset boards (and certainly not any recent ones) so there may be a lot of them with a feature like this but I just have not used them.
