1140863 2010-10-01 02:55:00 Hi All...I know there are a few doing Family Trees on this forum.

The IGI is the main source of data before 1837, other that Parish records. However I have found that some sites for parish Records are a bit hit & miss & don't appear to go very far back. Ant advice as to how to access pre 1838 data? thanks. PJ

Hi Poppa, have you tried the pilot.familysearch.org site.

You may need to order in the Parish films to view.

Here is a link that may help:

Hi all,

I have just started to use this terrific site and recommend it strongly freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com

It lists batch numbers for the British Isles and North America.......once you find the number you want you just click on the link and go straight into the IGI records for whatever church it refers to.

Have a look!

Lurking.

Ps. There also www.ParishFinder.co.uk site if you need to find a Parish.

lurks.

Have just looked at the 'pilot' It is a simpler version of the regular LDS IGI. (I think) looks good. I have been using the IGI Batch Numbers site already & DO find it useful. PJ

Do you have any links to Monmouthshire or the Forest of Dean? Parish records have been transcribed for both of those areas and are freely available on the web. Some Family History Societies have also transcribed their local parish records and you can get them on CDs (you have to pay). Other areas like Powys have got mailing lists that have members who will do lookups for you.

What areas are you looking at?

I thought they had one of the largest databases on geneology because their missionary's went around the world copying old rchurch records etc, so there would always be a second record .... may be wrong tho.

1140872 2010-10-01 21:02:00 Apparently a problem with Mormon Church records is that they are mostly self reported. People are encouraged to have their ancestors baptised post mortem so that they will be saved on the final day (because Mormons will be saved), so they register their details with the Mormon Church genealogy section.

I have no proof, but have been warned not to take their records as gospel (hahahahaha!) because they are really unreliable. Well, that is what I was told.
