2011-03-05 22:38:00 | I work for a large NZ company which has about 2,500 staff nationwide. We have recently changed our IT security system to a Symantic product from McAfee. Then I read about McAfee's faulty update back in April last year. And now McAfee does not appear in the Top 10 reviewed security systems. My home PC is protected by McAfee Security Centre. Should I be worried & start looking for another one? | d_wong (1373) | |
2011-03-05 22:51:00 | Neither McAfee or Symantec are very well liked here - they can be as bad as one another. Any AV provider can put out a dud patch, so I wouldn't go worrying to much about that. Dont go listening to much to Magazine reviews - they are total crap compared to real world results. Have a look through the posting here, there area couple about this subject. Are you asking for your own home useage, or the work of 2,500 clients ?

2011-03-06 08:28:00 | microsoft security essentials (MSE) is the best AV at the moment in my opinion. and its free. | ronyville (10611) | |
2011-03-06 19:14:00 | Yeah we've been using McAfee here at work since before I started, though I'm pretty confident we're going to switch now though. I'd never use it at home. I'd rather go without any. Same goes for Symantec. Microsoft Security Essentials for free, or if you feel obliged to pay then Eset NOD32 is *the* best :)

McAfee and Symantic (Nortons) aren't the same company. They are both crap. Auckland University changed to using NOD32 on their network a while ago - they did some real world testing of their own. They also use Spybot. |

2011-03-08 00:51:00 | Our company now uses Symantec Endpoint Security. Apparently it's the corporate version of Norton 360. Is this any better? | d_wong (1373) | |
