1183649 2011-03-05 01:54:00 Hi guys,

As the title says, i'm trying to removed the XP Home Security 2011 malware trojan?

issues are;

I can't run any exe files at all so cannot install Malwarebytes etc nor start regedit. When I do I get the "open with" dialog box prompt.

Any ideas on how to get rid of this nasty?

Thanks,
chiefnz (545)
1183650 2011-03-05 02:00:00 Disable system restore. Rename the malwarebytes install file then see if it installs / runs

Get trojan remover. Update it, do a scan. Then select all options under the utils menu

Or boot into safe mode / networking. Get ccleaner run it / do the above. Then go to tools / startup. Delete its entries if there's any there first

Or do the above, get teamviewer (thats if it'll install in safe mode / networking), give me the id and pw it gives, then I can do it from here

1183651 2011-03-05 02:01:00 Reboot your PC in Safe Mode.
RUn SPybot (with latest defintion files) and Malware Bytes.

Use either NOD32 or MS Security Essentials for your anti-virus in addition to the above anti-spyware programs.

1183652 2011-03-05 02:13:00 Thanks guys, but the issue is I cannot run ANY exe files at all, not even regedit?

I have malwarebytes installer and latest definition pack but cannot run them to remove the malware?

Any other ideas?

1183653 2011-03-05 02:17:00 Did you try safe mode / safe mode / networking? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1183654 2011-03-05 02:22:00 yep I've been through all those. I just managed to get app called PC Washer working (it was already installed) and it seems to be running ok. I am doing a registry scan so that I can fix the issue with running exe files.

Will let you know how I get on?

Thanks,

1183655 2011-03-05 02:25:00 And PC washer is what?? I would be careful what registry cleaners you use. Some can make a computer unbootable. I doubt this will remove malware in the registry. Malkwarebytes would be better if you can install / update / run it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1183656 2011-03-05 02:26:00 OK PC Washer seems to have fixed the issue with not being able to run exe files. I have now managed to install Malwarebytes and I am running a scan.

Hopefully I will have it sorted.

Dam these nasty trojans!!!

Cheers,

PC washer seems legit.... according to cnet (download.cnet.com)

Admittedly I have never heard of it.

1183658 2011-03-05 02:34:00 Hmm ok I would remove its entries from startup too. There's probably a few entries there as well Speedy Gonzales (78)
