1182919 2011-03-02 08:01:00 My broadband connection appears to be slowing down. Frequently when I attempt to access a site it seems to load about ¾ of the way and then slows to almost nothing.

Are there a few adjustments that I can make to speed it up?

I am running XP and use Firefox.

Thanks for your help.

1182920 2011-03-02 08:04:00 Who are you with?? If youre with Xnet, change ISP. You sure its the BB and not whats installed thats slowing things down? Did you tell your ISP? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1182921 2011-03-02 08:17:00 I am with Telecom.

It's not every site. It appears to be sites that I rarely visit or perhaps visit for the first time. Sites such as F1 load quite quickly.

What sort of installed programmes would be slowing it down?

1182922 2011-03-02 08:32:00 Malware / spyware for one. Maybe addons, depending on whats installed. And what browser you use. Ring them or check their site for any issues Speedy Gonzales (78)
1182923 2011-03-02 10:18:00 Your home phone wiring could be at fault, as well as the number of phones connected in your home.

At the very least, try disconnecting everything from the phone line except your broadband connection.

1182924 2011-03-02 20:01:00 Try running some speedtests (speedtest.net or many others). While they're certainly not an exact measure of your connection speed, they can be helpful to give some indication if there is a major problem. inphinity (7274)

1182926 2011-03-02 22:38:00 regarding your question about speeding up FF, you can do this by turning on pipelining

Not saying that's anything to do with your particular slow page loads - but overall, it does make pages load much faster

here's a post I made showing how to check it and turn it on with a couple other tweaks as well.
