| 1142860 | 2010-10-09 05:58:00 | I notice that many people who park illegally, on bus stops, taxi stands and the like, have their hazard lights operating . It seems to be quite a widespread and common occurrence . It does seem that these people may be under the misapprehension that the use of the hazard lights while parked illegally somehow makes illegal parking legal . Do the cops ignore a vehicle with their hazard lights flashing? I would not have thought so, but it seems that there are many out there that believe the use of the hazard lights somehow makes them invulnerable . There are quite a few people that use their hazards in this way . Seems a bit silly, really . |

There was a time when you could park a commercial vehicle just about anywhere as long as you were loading/unloading and left the engine running. I used to deliver in Queen St and my boss encouraged me to (even) double park if necessary, leave the hazards on and the engine running. Unfortunately, he was not interested in paying any parking fines so I did not do that too much. Don't think that any parking, in that case and except on loading zones, is permissible. |

As a courier, I was required to be licensed by the Ministry of Transport and when I relicensed my vehicle I was entitled to a "T" sticker (ordinary cars had "C" stickers, IIRC) - at extra (tax-deductible) cost of course . This entitled me to use loading zones legally and I used to get great satisfaction double-parking, 6 inches from a non-transport licensed vehicle's driver's door at 5 . 00pm in Queen Street and walking slowly into a building to make a delivery or pick up . The idiot who thought he could park in a loading zone because he was dropping off an envelope or picking up his wife, would yell and scream at me for blocking him in, when I came out . I usually just pointed out that he wasn't a commercial vehicle, hadn't paid the extra licence fee, so he shouldn't be parked there anyway, so he could just take a flying leap . Calmly got in my van and drove off . Not sure what defines a commercial vehicle these days . . . |

I dont want to go there. This one thing I dont want to really know about a year ago at the testing station in Rosebank rd this clown reckoned I should have a TSL rego for the breakdown truck. All the break down truck has is a gas set lots of big hammers and toosl, a few bits of radiator hose and a few nuts and bolts. I said if you make me get one I hope you are consistent and get every tom dick and harry plumber, drainlayer, electrician to do the same. He saw my point and didn't continue the argument, will never to that station again drive further to Kumeu one. |

| 1142868 | 2010-10-12 19:10:00 | All it comes back to: NZ driver licensing is stupidly relaxed . Most people can't remember the road rules from when they were young and got their license, and half of the rules have changed since then anyway . Not that many were taught to the standards demanded of modern traffic flows anyway . 5-year or 10-year interval testing (practical AND theory), and having to conquer both a track and a gravel road to get a full license . If you can run . . . walking's easy . AND if they had to re-do the theory every so often, they'd know that hazard lights are NOT untouchable lights :annoyed: |

And anyone caught speeding , involved in prang or illegally parked etc etc should be force to resit the written within 4 weeks.2nd offense then resit practical as well. That would stop alot of bad behavior on the roads. |
