| 1142698 | 2010-10-08 15:08:00 | Googles Google Voice can record calls as MP3 audio files . As it sits - Google can only record calls you receive via Google Voice, not those you dial out yourself . {see POSSIBLE exception, below} However - Google tells all parties that the call is being recorded, since recording a call without the consent of all parties is illegal in some localities or countries . If youve already got a Gmail or an iGoogle account, you can use your existing user name and password . Or, you can create one when you first use Google Voice with your browser . This service will now give you a Google phone number, with an area code that may differ from the one on your phone . It will then prompt you for a cellphone or land line number where incoming calls to your Google number will be forwarded . Recording is easy . Any time during an incoming call you can press 4 on your phone . A woman's voice will announce, This call is now being recorded . Continue with your call . After you hang up, Google Voice, which looks a lot like a Gmail entry will create an inbox entry for the recorded call . Left click to play it in your browser, or download it to your computer as an MP3 file . Its a lot easier than trying to take notes while you talk, and provided your caller doesnt mind being recorded its much less disruptive . { Possible out-calling workaround: If you decide to start recording in the middle of an out- call, you might be able to conference call your Google voice number, pick up that call while putting the first one on hold, press 4, then switch back to the first call, merging them together . } Even if you don't use the full recording system, just that voice announcing that the call is being recorded can create a lot of control for you over a bad situation from a nasty phone call . |

| 1142700 | 2010-10-08 21:25:00 | Seems it's all in the voice now for Google as I see from my feeds, that Google are closing their US voice directory service, and are concentrating on voice features to the Android for voice search, voice input (youtube link), and actions (searchengineland.com) to reach out even more. Probably get added to their web TV service at some stage. You think though, that they would have some sort of web cam service, if they don't already. | kahawai chaser (3545) | ||

| 1142702 | 2010-10-09 04:21:00 | I do Vid-Chats all the time via Google right now. Maybe it's a problem for Google to invert the images to Upsidedown Land, so youse guys don't get it yet. Or maybe they can't find you on their Google Map. As far as Google Phone, Chill and I had over an hour on it a few weeks ago. No charge to him at all! And he was the initiating caller from some gathering of 'puter geeks at a symposium for free Twinkies in NZ somewhere. |
