1143604 2010-10-12 01:19:00 Russell Coutts?? Explain, Trev... :p

He ditched Team NZ, left them in the lurch and buggered off to the Swiss with our boat design.

And you genuinely respect him? Dean Barker maybe... ;)

1143606 2010-10-13 07:36:00 You've got me puzzled. Tim Shadbolt has never lived in Whangarei, or been Mayor of this fine City. There was a suggestion at one stage, when he lost the mayoralty of Waitamata City as it was then, that he stand in Whangarei, but this never eventuated. So he was never booted out from here.

Sorry for the late-ish post Richard. I should elaborate. Tim was indeed here, he flatted with a friend of mine up here after losing the Waitemata mayoralty. He had aims of trying for our mayoralty but strong local public opinion changed his mind. They were not so happy with the idea. Hence, he moved south.

The story was covered by our local community rags if I recall.

Perhaps due to a contradiction in terms?

1143609 2010-10-13 19:45:00 Most of those whom we really respect are not widely known public figures, although many work quietly behind the scenes for schools, sports clubs, the sick and injured, charities and many more worthwhile sectors. They neither seek nor want publicity. They don't want to be known as "A-listers" but their contributions to society are invaluable.

I love B.M.'s list. It gave me a good laugh.

1143610 2010-10-13 23:20:00 Well, this is a hard one but I’ll go:

1: John Minto – for his tireless efforts to make South Africa what it is today.

2: Hone Harawira - for his love and understanding of white people.

3: Al Gore – for his demonstration of honesty in all his business dealings.

:devil

Spot on BM, I must concur.

1143613 2010-10-15 03:37:00 Tim Shadbolt was a good mayor in Waitemata,.
He was an idiot. He was a useless concreter, he lost the Mayoral Chains and all he cared about and still does, is being anywhere dumb enough to take him so he can big note in public and the media.

The position of his mouth is a permanent fixture and has nothing to do with his state of mind, which was usually fogged over by a cloud of illegal substance.

My husband went to school with him and said he was the same then, all mouth until one of the teachers closed it for him with his fist. back when teachers were allowed to do such things.
