1143976 2010-10-12 22:07:00 Nice bit of twisted logic . These incidents happened on the open road and yes with your logic if someone had been travelling closer to 100kph instead of being the fast and the furious then the accidents may well have not happend .

You said it was $80 fine at 58kph? My understanding is that is up to 11kph over the limit the penalty is $30 for speeds between 11-15kph $80, 16-20kph $120?

Then again to get a ticket issued you must have been in a school zone as well for 58kph?

Bit of luck for you that speed cameras dont attract demerits .

Actually I am not sure to be honest the print out I obtained only states Exceeding 50 .

Last ticket i got was about 5 years ago and about the same speed and fine, so i doubt only $30 for 11-15Kph over sounds a bit 1980's .

PS This thread is not about "Speeding is ok" so you can save your lectures .

1143977 2010-10-12 22:07:00 I do, it's in my wallet, and I won't go anywhere without my wallet.

Wife forgot her purse once on the way to work! Done it loads of times and guilty of it myself never really been that worried about it as where we live no where to spend money unless thats the specific objective.

Thats all changed now after the missus came across one of those random road checkpoints all legal except she left her purse at home....bam $55 penalty for not being able to produce driving licence. Made me laugh though a few years ago I recall drivng of the Turoa Ski Area got stopped asked for licence which was in jacket in boot of car and the cop waved us through without sighting it. You got to love the inconsitancy of NZ Policing :clap

1143978 2010-10-12 22:15:00 What inconsistency? while you are searching for your licence cars with no rego wof and pissed drivers are getting thru. And holding up other cars.
I think its called common sense

No lectures from me just had a gutsfull of people justifying getting a speeding ticket by saying they should have been going faster . Especially after seeing the results and having to clear up the mess .

Sorry forgot an , after the $30 originally .

So what speed was it then sounds like you were doing 61-65 and your speedo probably was showing up to 70kph at the time? You kind dropping yourself in it as being a reckless driver .

50kph urban area means kids could be around . Sorry I think your getting off lightly .

Not sure if your being funny or not?

I found it bizarre that given her identity was obtained by other means they issued a ticket because thats the law, yet when I was stopped the cop took my word for it even though I was in a rental car . For all he knew I could have been an unlicensed driver! All academic really given it was not a safety issue?

Funny you wrote a lecture, and still soap boxing. in my very first post I accepted the fine itself, I don't have an issue with it.

Seems you might be right looking at a Gov website, up to 10Kmh/h is $30 and then increases to $630 for speeds up to 50km/h over. So I guess it was more like 64 (my bad ).

I am deadly serious the cops have priorities on road stops, they have a sixth sense for spotting people up to no good by profiling and can sus out a dodgy vehicle blindfolded .
Perhaps you were polite and clean cut with right body language and the cop just knew you were ok .

1143983 2010-10-12 22:46:00 I was embarrassed I was going so slow when I got the fine, if your going to get nicked for speeding at least do it properly!

My apologies but it was this post that got my hackles up. After having to deal with a fatality and tow serious accidents this weekend these things do end to get you annoyed with people who think that traffic regulations do not apply to them or consider the consequences and risks of when things could go wrong.

Anyways you have passed me some time to browse the NZTA website, I was pretty sure that failing to notify of changes to circumstances (ie Change of address) also can attract a fine. I remember having this discussion with someone on the telephone at NZTA who said that it is rarely followed up though.

Hell no I had just been in the bush for a few days in a cheap rental:eek:
The missus was on her way to work in work uniform with name tag and legal car in her name.
My guess was that he had a target set and was out to issue a ceratin amount of tickets before he could go home (slow day)

Thats cool I 100% agree the road fatality are way to high in NZ, and people don't comprehend the seriousness until someone dies they know. I can assure you I am not a frequent speeder and I am surprised I was prob over 60 in a 50, not only that the stationary speed camera I knew about. I was probably busy on my cell phone and watching a movie on my pop up LCD monitor as I came up to it

I think it would be very difficult to get people to change address with every Central and Local government agency that may want to contact you in the future. In my case it seems like it was a bit of bad timing as they clearly learned of my address a few months later. I also believe they can request the address through the phone companies if not listed. Seems like dont make much of a effort, but they were fair about it in the end.
