1143792 2010-10-11 23:44:00 Doh! Cyclists have no special privileges (apart from being allowed to ride in cycle lanes - where provided).

ALL behavioural road rules applicable to motor cycles and cars also apply to cyclists.

Ignore the road rules at your peril.

1143793 2010-10-12 03:07:00 Wtf? Why do you need a handbrake to stop? Do you pull your handbrake up in your car at a stop sign?

And did you seriously just ask how a motorbike stops . . . . . .

OP mentioned it may not be easy to stop . When I learnt to drive we did hillstarts with the handbrake and if you asking, yes I do use the handbrake for hillstarts and stops before hand .

1143794 2010-10-12 03:37:00 What about the fact that it is not really easy to stop and start on a bike?

It's easier to start a bike than a car.

1143795 2010-10-12 04:14:00 Hi Lance4K.

Could you please explain what part of the word STOP do you not understand?

Again you make no sense.

Why are you talking about hillstarts now? We are talking about STOP SIGNS.

The OP said it may not be easy to stop on a bike (which it is...) at a stop sign and then you start about handbrakes in cars for hillstarts????

Well I guessed why would a cyclist have a difficult time stopping at a stop sign? Over here there are places where you have to stop and make hillstarts.

You make no sense and please grow up. You are not a friendly person arn't you. Sorry I didn't meet your expectations father. Get out of my face, it's a public forum. I think you're an ass, that's just my opinion of you, you and your boy racer attitude. You swore at me. So the same to you too, wtf.

1143798 2010-10-12 08:54:00 STOP signs and railway crossings!

Cyclists can get away with them because of being able to see and hear with out obstruction (Unless they have an ipod).

Car drivers tend not to see the Train until it is to late :help:

1143799 2010-10-12 09:38:00 Legally, every 'vehicle' has to stop at a stop sign. Cars, bikes, hell technically even horses have to as well.

I'll admit, it is a pain sometimes to lose all the momentum that you've built up, but I only got that when I was dog-tired.

If you have trouble getting a bike moving (hill or no hill) after stopping, then maybe you shouldn't be on one.

1143800 2010-10-12 09:42:00 Cycle regulations. Good brakes on the front & back wheels (or, if the bike was made on or before 1/01/1988, a good brake on the rear wheel). BobM (1138)
1143801 2010-10-12 20:26:00 It seems that cyclist dont need to stop at pedestrian crossings either. They can go through, full speed, on the Left of the stopped cars . Dont worry about the poor pedestrians trying to cross. Who cares if they total a small kid.
They will find a way to blame the cars for this as well.
