| 1143408 | 2010-10-11 20:34:00 | Actually, since Governor Generals are getting some scrutiny, I knew one of Anands predecessors - Dame Kath Tissard - and I can't think of anyone I'd less want in such an office! I had the displeasure of meeting Kath when she was supervising biology labs at university. She would draw the entire lab to a standstill and demand everyones attention. She'd then rant on at length and waste huge amounts of lab time only to ultimately clap her hands and tell us to get on with it as there's not much time left... time she wasted! Her only suitability as a GG was her ability to fill in time with her mouth. Visiting dignitaries can never experience that uncomfortable silence in a formal situation if the GG is ranting endlessly. Our fat and dark and accented Anand is very welcome to replace her! Actually, as for his weight - that kinda does make him a typical kiwi, so the fat-o-phobic criticisms are certainly out of order. |

Some sites also have a digest mode. No, but the emails for those comments were probably sent at the same time. Many large-scale notification systems will send email in batches - so while those 36 comments were all sent at different times, the notifications for them were all grouped into a single batch run of the mailing script. I think it is time the lad got a life as he suggested to someone else. As for Michael Laws he is just a narcissist and was just feeling left out. As far as the Gov goes he is someone I have really never known, so I think what Henry should have asked is if the next one would be someone the public knew. |

| 1143410 | 2010-10-12 02:19:00 | Human Rights Commission rang me back today. We don't have Freedom of Speech laws in NZ, but we do have rights to expression. Long story short, I can call anybody fat, slim, white, brown, pink, whatever, and provided that I'm not inciting racially disharmonous behaviour, it's legal. Basically, I'm allowed to be an athiest (If I were, I'm not, but that's not the point) and not like christians or muslims. I'm allowed to stand on the street corner and state my beliefs like that too. I'm not however allowed to call for all christians or muslims to be harmed, discriminated against, or killed for example. Just thought I'd share that, after the phone call just now. Think I'll blog on this, could be a very interesting topic! :D I also made an interesting point on the Radio this morning after The Edge suggested that instead of saying "Electric cars are gay" they movie with Vince Vaughn could say "Electric cars are lame", so as not to offend the gays. I asked them "How then would people who can't walk feel?" :D PC gone mad ... |

An example might be calling anyone with dark skin anything becomes racial. If you insult a European its par for the course we deserve it we are colonizing buggers. Be best to tape up mouth until we get a freedom of speech act. Maybe with a constitution and loosen up the gun laws a bit at the same time. |

| 1143414 | 2010-10-12 03:03:00 | No the idea is that it's very liberal so as not to impose on your human right to expression, which is similar to the US freedom of speech law, but potentially better? I dunno, I'm no lawyer... It's only an issue if you're directly inciting racial dishamony by either threats of physical violence or the likes. Otherwise you're free to express your opinion. After all, it's just your opinion if somebody is fat ... |
