1142634 2010-10-08 20:49:00 You can get cans of compressed air from DSE and Jaycar bk T gary67 (56)
1142635 2010-10-09 00:14:00 If you haven't got compressed air - a balloon and a straw work wonders. A bit unwieldy at first - but gets easier with practise ;) Brooko (8444)
1142636 2010-10-09 00:58:00 Vacuum.
Make sure you keep the hose grounded.
My neighbor took his leaf blower to his car dash.
Blew dust in the switch contacts.
Not much would work.

1142637 2010-10-09 01:31:00 Any alternatives to get compressed air?

Bunnings also - just over $10 a can. I use it for small woodturning occasionally when it is not worth firing up the compressor.

1142638 2010-10-09 02:18:00 We go a bit extreme (yay 2.5hp air compressor) Usually we take each PC or if its a laptop apart as best we can, laptops are a pain, then blast with air, fans go with a moist anti static cloth. the case is just more cloth we also reset any heatsinks with a dab of thermal paste after cleaning the old stuff out.

you want to get any dislodged dust out as best you can, otherwise it just settles back down rather quickly and makes it easier for more dust to stick back on (usually on fans, other hardware is a bit more resistant)

1142640 2010-10-09 04:04:00 Compressed air probably is good way to get rid of 'unwanted' stuff in the PC but got to bring your PC to a petrol station to get the job done is not a convenient thing!:D

Any alternatives to get compressed air?

On the older electrolux vacumn cleaners the intake pipe could be put on the exit side. Quite a reasonable amount of pressure there. [B]Just make sure[B]you take out the filter bag, or you will have one heck of a dust storm! Also ideal for drying out underneath wet carpet in the car.

1142641 2010-10-09 04:16:00 Does anyone realize what that dust inside their puters is?

Dead skin cells, mostly - unless you have a cat .

Then it may be cat fur AND human skin cells .

Got more than one human in your puter area? Then you have multiple dead human cell-remains there .

Don't breathe in any dead humans!

1142642 2010-10-09 06:20:00 Fred ... they look like "southern" computers .... we fill them full of insulation to stop the fans freezing up :D SP8's (9836)
