1143400 2010-10-10 22:01:00 Yeah where do you draw the line...

I don't believe we have the same freedom-of-speech laws that the USA also has?

1143402 2010-10-10 22:28:00 Well, if this doesn’t stop all our Taxi Drivers, Dairy Owners, and South Auckland Liquor Store Proprietors will desert us and return to India and then we’ll have to man out own Call Centres to boot!

Outrageous!

1143403 2010-10-11 18:29:00  Man, is this Paul Henry saga getting extroidinary reactions - here's what happened to me for posting a comment . . .

I posted a comment on Sunday on a blog by Chris Ford named "TVNZ considering sacking Paul Henry - about time too!" on voxy dot co dot nz site .
Well, I went into my email inbox this morning and found 90 emails there, 5 were personal, but 85 emails !!!! were from admin @ voxy co nz .
Didn't open any of them, put them into junk folder and deleted them . But I have emailed the site, suggesting if they don't want comments, then maybe they shouldn't make provision for comments .
The following is the comment I placed on the blog . . . .

Well I'm very suspicious of

Well I'm very suspicious of the Indian Govt making such a fuss over the couple of things Paul Henry said publically on TV .
Why??
Because for ages the papers and sportsmen/women have been going on about how India was behind on getting things completed for the Commonwealth Games, about the dengue outbreak near the sports villages, the corruption and overspending, the walkway collapsing, etc . It was a massive and embarrassing position for India and its people .
Then along comes Paul Henry incident, and the Indian hierarchy grab on to it for all its worth to take the heat off their own fiasco regarding the commonwealth games . Hell, they can't even fill the stands at the venues .

To the indignant NZ'ers, the Indian government, the media, my advice to you is to "get a life" . Focus on real issues that are affecting this world .
I'm in earthquake ChCh and believe me, once you've been holding on to a doorway in darkness, too scared to move, things crashing all around you, and you think your time has come, silly ill-considered comments by guy on TV are chicken feed . LET IT GO, OK!!!!!!!!!!!

Was that really worth 85 emails  These emails seemed to have same time-print on them [didn't check times after the first page, just noted they had same sender] - is that a kind of Spam???

1143404 2010-10-11 18:33:00 Those emails were probably automated notifications informing you of new comments on the article - the default assumption there appears to be that if you leave a comment, you'll want to know about any other replies too.

Any chance you could clarify?

1143405 2010-10-11 19:29:00 Hi Erayd
When just commenting on that kind of blog, full of self-righteous and indignant characters, then no, I don't expect to be advised of any other replies, nor am I interested in debating the article. Just giving my viewpoint for what its worth :2cents:.
There are 36 emails per page of my inbox, My 5 personal emails were at the very end of the total 90 emails. So with the first page that I checked, all 36 had the same time-print. Surely the 36 comments following mine were not entered on the blog at the same time?
cheers, Marg

Just giving my viewpoint for what its worth :2cents:.There's usually an option for this - while that site may have had email notification as the default, there should be a way to switch them off. Some sites also have a digest mode.

...all 36 had the same time-print. Surely the 36 comments following mine were not entered on the blog at the same time? No, but the emails for those comments were probably sent at the same time. Many large-scale notification systems will send email in batches - so while those 36 comments were all sent at different times, the notifications for them were all grouped into a single batch run of the mailing script.

This has been my thoughts exactly.
Don't forget that the head of the games prep in India is a Kiwi, and he has also been in hot water for suggesting the Indian way of doing things is to blame for the many issues at the games... so he had primed anti-kiwi sentiment in India before Henry opened his mouth.

Then along came Henry, and he was just the target they wanted... another pale fellow and a kiwi. Get Him!

I also find the local broadcasters response to be inconsistent with the 'crime'.

If Henrys laughter over Dicksh!t was so offensive, why has that very samme 'offensive' clip been replayed over and over in the news broadcasts? Are we trying to cause even more offense, or is there really nothing to get offended about.
If the clip is genuinly offensive then the broadcastsers who have chosen to replay it over and over again are far more culpable than Henry.

Henry made the comment somewhat ignorant of the possible reaction.
The news media are well aware of the reaction, yet have continued to play this 'offensive' clip.
Where is the reaction demanding the heads of the news editors?
