1184162 2011-03-07 12:19:00 Any recommendation on Disk imaging software for SSD drive (with Win7 Pro 64bit)?

1184164 2011-03-07 19:07:00 Depends on what you're wanting to do. Image your OS drive? Or image a secondary data disk? Chilling_Silence (9)
1184165 2011-03-07 22:07:00 Windows 7 has a built in imaging function as part of it's backup service. It's slow but it seems to work well, I just used it to clone my hard drive after acronis failed (clone was not bootable). Just a thought. dugimodo (138)
1184166 2011-03-07 22:53:00 You can use anything that will image a normal HDD, the fact that it's an SSD makes no difference. Agent_24 (57)
1184167 2011-03-08 01:32:00 Thank you all for your replies.

It's for the OS drive and I did read some stories about certain cloning software produced some unbootable drives, that's why I want to play safe.

I also read some where that cloning onto a SSD might cause all cells to be written to, including empty cells, which might lead to performance issues?

Will a partition copy be better than sector by sector copy?

1184168 2011-03-08 01:34:00 By the way, what about imagex that is part of WinE? Can the wim image be restored to a raw drive?

1184169 2011-03-08 02:27:00 Yes, partition copy should only write those sectors which have data, empty sectors will be ignored.

Pre-Win7 software might screw up the Win7 bootloader, it's possible.

A full sector clone using such program as dd would ensure that everything worked but then you would be writing some sectors unnecessarily, however doing it once should hardly shorten the lifespan by a considerable degree I'd think.

1184170 2011-03-18 21:42:00 Wow, that's the second time you've recommended PowerISO in threads that I am subscribed to, and in this case the use of PowerISO doesn't even apply!

I think you are an idiot spammer!

I hope PowerISO isn't paying you for this, because if they are, they're wasting their money. I am reporting your posts and you will probably be banned quite soon :D

Usually people like that have a Sig, but we've blocked sigs
