A good spot for road side readings is just up from Middlemore Hospital opposite Kings College (I think that's the name). The road is long and few cars park along there - except if there's a function at the school. But often the grass is a bit long next to the tracks.

Also Manurewa car park in Southmall, with a view above the tracks - but likely to attract shopper's attention.
