1145367 2010-10-16 21:19:00 Does anyone know of where replacement engines for motor mowers may be found primarily Christchurch or if they can be ordered from other places. zqwerty (97)
1145368 2010-10-16 22:07:00 Would be infinitely easier to get a new mower really, try 2nd hand shops or something like trash palace where they have plenty of mowers with plenty of spares The Error Guy (14052)
1145369 2010-10-16 22:10:00 just go to the lawnmower shop, they'll be able to order one for you jareemon (5207)
1145370 2010-10-16 22:11:00 I don't want a new mower, they cost too much, I have a perfectly good chassis, wheels, handle etc and blades, the motor is at the end of it's life and I need to get a reconditioned or new replacement. zqwerty (97)
1145371 2010-10-16 22:38:00 Can buy a Honda lawn mower engine off the shelf more expensive than a commie chinese copy of a Tecumseh/B&S.
They would last for the lifetime of a section owner and are repairable.
If you are old it wouldnt be cost effective to buy one though

1145372 2010-10-17 00:08:00 In the olden days, brown paper and gold size was used for making petrol and oil resistant gaskets.

Way back my uncle use to use brown kraft paper and some type of coating. But what's gold size? Just interested...

Cornflakes packets (and similar vegetable parchment papers) have high grease resistance, which I use to do spot chemical tests based on the 3M Grease Test (www.csipaper.com)

Gold size varnish is used for sticking gold leaf. According to Google it comes with different bases, like water, linseed oil, meths or acrylic. The one my dad and I used to use came from hardware shops or drysalters and was meths and shellac based.

1145375 2010-10-17 05:19:00 Now I recall the shellac you mention, recall seeing it in those old hip flask looking tins, which I think had a strong foul scent. I guess he used that (or mixed with something) as the layer coating for his home made gaskets. kahawai chaser (3545)
