Just because you don't know what a real train (www.youtube.com) is doesn't mean you can mock me :p

1145028 2010-10-15 08:17:00 Well, some quick and dirty research indicated that diesel-powered alternators were the go, so they are AC powered. Nothing I've found suggests that DC was or is in use anywhere but on the overhead 26kV line in the lower North Island out of Wellington and up into the Manawatu perhaps.

I think I'll go to Britomart next week and make some discrete measuremnts with a hand-held meter.

Cheers

FWIW the 4 car sets and the 6 car sets (only used out west) use different classes of locomotives so you may get different readings.

pcuserWINVISTA ... like that's a REAL OS :

It boots, it works, therefore it's an OS :D

Yeah true - some of those meters resemble a gun, particularly when aiming them...

LOL :D Not mine, they look like what they are, instruments, and you don't have to aim them, they are triaxial and measure in X, Y, & Z vectors simultaneously. Britomart will only give me the passenger units I know, but I'll take a cut lunch and go to somewhere south of the city to catch the freight locos. Might make a pleasant few hours if I take a book, a bottle and a cut lunch!

Cheers
